Phyllis, I am STRUCK that noone in the comments section want to see the elephant in the room. OIL. While it’s not the only thing to do, stop buying oil is the very first thing to do. Ranting in forums, organizing conferences, and so on brings us nowhere unless we finally start to switch as soon as possible to renewable energies and be environmental savy.
Also putting the accent on oil will bring many more allies than you can never imagine.
Jewish food activists, jewish farmers, organic kosher buyers, environmental jewish organisations can be seen by some as freaks and idiots but they are doing the world, jewish people and Israel more favour than any pro-Israel rally.
They are showing that another way it’s possible. It means a world with no oil. NO OIL NO PARTY!
No oil means no funding for islamist extremism.

Let me add something else. I would not put Israel and Usa in the same room.
Israel has ratified Kyoto Protocol, Usa has not.
Israel has ratified CEDAW, USA has not.
Israel has supported the call for universal decriminalisation of homosexuality, Usa has not.
I cheer Israel for having done all these things.

That said I wish the rally you talk about every succes, but I wish every sucess as well to the various feminist and women’s rights activities planned for presidential inaguration.
The new administration signals on child care, women at work and pay equity promises well. And in that I see no contradiction with the rally against islamists terrorism.

Just a reminder: in the course of the Muslim invasion and occupation of India, at least 60-80 MILLION human beings, Hindus and Buddhists, nearly all non-combatants, were butchered in the name of ‘allah’. The wonderful Persian-Greco-Buddhist civilisation of Afghanistan, a fascinating fusion of east and west, spiced with Jews and with Nestorian Christians, was annihilated – just imagine what it might have become, had Islam never existed. Instead of a society of murderous assassins, Afghanistan would have been full of poets, artists and sculptors such as those who created the Bamiyan Buddhas and the cave paintings behind them. Imagine what India might have become, had Islam never existed. And now, today Muslim jihadists behead Buddhist monks and gun down schoolteachers, in Thailand, and butcher both Hindus and Jews, in Mumbay.
