Truly, this is Marxist Critical Theory in action — to impute malignant intentions to traditional norms (hopefully, ones that can be criminalized) and to force society to to have to defend itself from an unexpected quarter. As one of the Obama slogans has it, “we can’t wait.” Besides, back when he was pretending to care about jobs, he promised us that if Congress won’t act, he will — remember?

Facing a possible defeat in November, watch for the administration to move swiftly as it continues the unmaking of America. For “fundamental transformation” can’t really begin until the old edifices are destroyed, whether incrementally or in a single stroke of executive fiat or Supreme folly. It’s helpful to have the people “get involved,” but not really necessary as long as you have the media on your side to give the illusion of public approval. After all, they can always manufacture another poll to prove whatever Democrat talking point is currently on the table, then unleash their pundit armies to proclaim that the American people are coming around on the subject (marriage, taxes, etc.) and thus endorsing the president’s brave, transformative stance.
But that’s just another day in the office for the institutional Left and for the criminal organization masquerading as a political party that fronts for it. Enjoy your holiday but don’t forget: they’ll still be working.
During my middle and high school civics lessons, 40 years ago, I actually came to respect what a wonderful achievement this country’s founders brought forth. It never occurred to me that grifters, thugs, and narcissists were the type attracted to political leadership, and that if you weren’t careful they’d overrun once respectable institutions. Meanwhile, I think people like me who had learned respect for those institutions believed all was well and those “checks and balances” would keep the worst from happening. How naive! Those character types mentioned above knew exactly how to pull the wool over the eyes of everyone not paying attention.

Last, it’s really funny that on Independence Day, when another PJ article celebrates the Founders for creating a document which continues to expand equality (despite their failure to recognize women, non-landowners or slaves at the time), this article decries the same expansion of equality. I suppose that the author and most commenters here would prefer to be back to the time when “traditional values” meant neither women nor non-property-owners could vote. OK….

I’m not sure it matters whether or not Obama is “facing a possible defeat in November” as Mr. Walsh contends. I don’t see Obama agreeing to leave office in January 2013 regardless of the election outcome. Paranoid? Unbelievable? Just as paranoid and unbelievable as an administration that would ship guns to criminals foreign country to undermine a constitutional rights, a president who would rule by fiat, or a president who would conduct a fundraiser in a foreign country on our Independence Day.
Watch for inexplicable changes in leadership in our Federal law enforcement agencies and military branches between now and November. Beware of Administration claims of a plot to subvert elections by Right-wing extremists as November approaches.
I sincerely hope that Obama isn’t re-elected in November. But if he isn’t, that may not be the end of our troubles.

This entire Administration has used the tyranny of urgency to wreak havoc on American traditional values for 31/2 years. They’ve done so much damage so quickly that we can’t even remember half of it.
I want some of what Nate Silver is smoking. Every vulnerable Democrat is distancing themselves from Obama. That speaks volumes about what they are hearing from voters.

I think Silver’s analysis is right. The vulnerable Dems are in hiding but there aren’t that many of them and the average “undecided” Presidential voter won’t even know or care about the actions of a particular politician. Romney really has a problem:
- everything bad with ObamaCare is bad with RomneyCare thanks to John “I’m not a Man(date)” Roberts
- we “know” everything about Obama, Romney is an unknown (Obama is old unreported news, nothing was seen, move along)
- Obama will run to the center after the convention, Romney will run to the center after the convention
- the average voter won’t start paying attention until after the conventions
So the average uninformed voter gets to decide between Mitt Obama or Barack Romney. If there’s no material difference then why not stick with Barack “Romney” Obama and skip the learning curve? Romney needs to run a strong, vigorous campaign to win but my TEA leaves say “tepid”. I could well be wrong but my impression is that Romney expects to win by just showing up – the same strategy that McCain utilized so successfully.

The only people who care about Romneycare are conservatives and when it comes to a choice between Obama and Romney all of those with any sense and love of our country will vote Romney. Romney was not my first choice but I care more about saving this country from the socialist juggernaut than I care about having my way. This fight will not end with a presidential election even though it’s important we start it by replacing Obama.
There has to be a theory to explain what’s happening to America since GWB, 911, and now, Obama. I call it the Crumbling Theory: Once a foundation is broken (constitution) the walls will lose strength. The wall of the Court just showed stress cracks via Roberts. The wall that is congress has been infected by termites in the Senate and House. The wall that is the White House has replaced sturdy 2X4s with IOUs and debt instruments- trillions of them.
And finally, the wall that is our border has been left un-repaired too long.
That’s four walls that are weak on a foundation that is being jack-hammered away at by this and other administrations with reckless abandon. But this current crew is working 24/7 to blast away any protections provided by our founding documents.
My feeling is that those in charge of defending America aren’t interested for whatever reason. We will need an entire change of personnel to make the repairs needed to restore this country. We’ve got the people with the skills to do it, what they need is the opportunity. I’m not racist but, a black President and Attorney General give me pause. Even if they were dedicated to the task, I’m not sure they could ‘get her done’. Exhibit A: Haiti. Exhibit B: Africa.
I got to re-visit the Declaration of Independence via a radio show today and was amazed at the language and specificity of grievances with the Crown and what the states/colonies planned to do as a result. This was 200+ years ago. President Obama, two hundred years and a telepromter later can’t even come close to making the case for ‘redistribution of wealth’ and ‘fundamental transformation’ of America.
The day after we celebrate Happy Independence Day, I’ll be shopping for cases of ammo to compliment certain firearms before these too are subject to a new “tax”. Dependence is my greatest fear and we’re cultivating too much of it. When the cows don’t come home, things will get ugly. Let somebody else deal with ‘ugly’, I’ve got other plans.

Yes, and let me explain why.
I neither oppose nor support gay marriage. I think that, if it was merely a matter of a particular law, it would be no big deal either way. I don’t htink the American moral fibre will collapse due to it.
The *people* have the right to accept, or reject, same-sex marriage, as they see fit. There is nothing in the Constitution that forces the people to *not* pass a law making same-sex marriage legal — or, for that matter, polygamy. If the legistlature (elected by the people) of Vermont, say, declares that they will accept the union of two men and 13 women as marriage, they can. I would oppose such a law, but if it would pass, it would simply be another stupid law of thousands. The people have the right to draw the line where they want — THIS is marriage, THAT is not — without the fact that one draws the line somewhere mean those who are not recognized are somehow “discriminated” against.
But the moment same-sex marriage becomes a “constitutional right” (I wonder what Jefferson would have said about THAT) then there is absolutely no way polygamy, or for that matter incest, to not be recognized. For if we all have the right to the state to recognize our unions, then ALL unions must be legally recognized. All efforts to draw the line between marriage and non-marriage ANYWHERE would be declared “unconstitutional”, for daring to “discriminate” against those whose unions are not recognized.
In other words, what CAN collapse the American people is the imperial judiciary and its proliferation of invented “rights”, which in effect means that any law that elite liberals dislike is therefore “unconstitutional” — in other words, turning the country into an oligarchy instead of a republic.
(I must say that if there *must* be an oligarchy, I for one would prefer the oligarchy of the rich as opposed to that of the self-proclaimed “morally superior” and “sensitive” folks, as the rich at least might pass policies that work in the real world, and at least won’t try to make people’s views punishable thoughtcrimes, like most “hate speech” laws are.)
You forgot to point out that if it becomes a Constitutional right then it opens the door for every church in the country to be sued for hate crimes.

It is not gay marriage specifically that the courts are protecting (or seeming to in most posters minds). Its the rights and privileges that are tied to the secular contract of marriage that the courts have stated that these cannot be denied to gays.

Monagamy or polygamy is all the same to the left. What they want is to derail the status quo so they can grab any power that shakes loose. Change for changes sake.
It’s not like DOMA has any chance of surviving a Supreme Court challenge. It directly violates the “full faith and credit” clause – it was dead in the water from the moment it was passed.
Yet it’s been the law of the land for some 15 years – and signed by Clinton. This wasn’t a Bush law.
Oh, quite so. Clinton should have had the backbone to veto it – serious error on his part.
But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s unconstitutional on it’s basics. A clause of the Constitution cannot be overridden by mere law – that’s basic Constitutional Law 101 right there. The part that has amazed me is that no one has gotten certiorari over it prior to this.

Well, sorry, but there is simply zero chance that DOMA can pass SCOTUS review. The “Full Faith and Credit” clause of our constitution REQUIRES every state, and the Federal Government, to give the aforesaid full faith and credit to any civil contracts made in any other state. That has been, since the casting down of the miscegenation laws, inclusive of marriage contracts – a marriage in any one state MUST be acknowledged by ALL other states, as must a divorce, or other dissolution of that marriage.
Then along comes DOMA. And DOMA says “states that don’t want to, don’t have to accept same-sex marriage contracts from other states.”
Sorry, but any time the Constitution and a law conflict, the law ends. SCOTUS might just excise that aspect of DOMA (it’s not the only one) but at the very least, that aspect of the law is clearly, unequivocally and utterly unconstitutional.
I’ve always felt that as long as America has some kind of federal election every two years that there would be no reason for a revolt. I’m not so sure anymore.
This year’s election is shaping up to be a revolt.
I would suggest personal involvement in the voting and vote counting process. Everywhere. With cameras.

Was not Obama’s argument for the constitutionality of Obamacare that it was passed by a duly elected Congress. Surely he would not want to see DOMA struck down by an activist court. After all, the majorities by which it passed far exceeded those for his healthcare bill.

The real problem is “he’s a construct” who believes he’s the genuine article… He really believes this … so fervently that, although he’s not really a “gifted speaker”, certainly not once the teleprompters fail, he’s been able to convince quite a large number of people of this. The other real problem is our highly uneducated electorate. Don’t misunderstand: plenty of schooling, even advanced degrees, but that’s not education; even if successful, it is actually training, mostly to increase earning potential in some specialized direction, but … education it isn’t. Our schools have provided ever less of it, ever since Dewey. Thus sound-bites work, and short video clips, just like on American Idol. The MSM are having an easy time of presenting a star narrative they would have had difficulty convincing anybody to take seriously 50 – 60 years ago, let alone a century.
A broad education would be required, before all else, in order to be able to see through such an empty suit as O’bummer, and the MSM constructs and lies, and notice, for instance, that there are no “irish roots”, and that the rest is mostly equally bogus. These two things are the main problems. So emotions take over, and rule, and there a media construct like O’bummer has more experience against the genuine article, such as Romney. People have been conditioned to want the show, and tend to find reality boring. Too much like work! That’s what we’re really up against.

That Beyond GDP and Happy Planet Index thus ties into the 3rd prong of attack–what is nerdily called changing the noetic systems of the culture under assault. Noo is the Greek word for the mind. This represents moving away from the transmission of knowledge and rejecting the rational mind promoted by the Enlightenment. Instead emotion gets cultivated instead as the primary response. I have been writing about this element in the social and emotional emphasis of Common Core and the NEA’s push for a values curriculum they are marketing called Purple America.
The last part is also seen in UVa’s recent establishment of that $12 million Contemplative Sciences Center that will be coordinating with other schools throughout the university. The idea is that emotional beliefs are equally valid forms of perspectives vs analytical, fact based thought.
We are on a bad trajectory in so many areas. But if you have the gamebook they are all related. As is Obamacare which is linked to the physical wellbeing as a core obligation of govt to provide for all. It is a component of the social and emotional wellbeing push as well.
The really good news is we can see the full template in other countries like the UK and Australia and then recognize what is coming if we do not turn around this collectivist juggernaut.
We are witnessing the tyranny of those in power, and it’s not just here in america. When the Egyptian Supreme Constitutional Court ruled that the Parliamentary elections, and the representation of the parliament were unconstitutional. I could only think how similar that ruling was to the 9th Circut of the United Statees when it put a stay of the referendum that voted against gay marriage.
Chief Justice Roberts’ opinion that ruled ObamaCare a tax, reminded me of King George II’s Tea tax; which was just as unpopular as the ObamaCare taxes will be starting in 2014-15.
The Three branches of our Federal government once had checks and balanses, but those carefully constructed lines have been wiped away. Interpertation and precedent have been replaced by secular relativism. The moral basis the constitution was built on is being corrupted by laws that go against the natural and unaienable rights of all. We are no longer a nation under God. That ended when man’s law exceded and was placed above God’s Law.
The headline on this blog post says all you need to know. They aren’t gonna quit or go home, and they’re in it to win, at your expense.
The GOP primaries are over and anti-statist conservatives made a decent showing (plus a bonus: some Dems are running for cover). All this will be reflected in the national vote in November. So far, so good.
But our side can’t stop there — this battle isn’t about any one election. The Progressives and the Left have had 100+ years to embed themselves into the fabric of government, frequently helped along by Establishment Republicans.
There will be more primaries and elections two years from now, and those also need strong anti-statist candidates. The beat never quits: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.
The best way to look at the Roberts decision is to see it as a useful reminder that the Supreme Court isn’t to be relied on. Even Roberts himself said (in effect), “Don’t rely on us to save you from your poor political choices.”
What counts is a Congress and a White House dominated by those who understand what limited government means. Bend your every political effort in that direction. And don’t let up.

They will work day in and day out to acieve their utoptian vision. they believe they are creating heaven on Earth. God may be dead, but new breed of men with Godlike powers (think Soros) are here on Earth. The era of the “men of action” is at hand. I have heard people say Obama will make himself president for life. My question has always been “How would he enforce just such an action” Simple, we have already seen such a force in action in the George Soros funded OWS crowds. If he needs re-enforcements, all he has to is go to college campus where you will find lots of students in “Che” tee shirts willing to be an Obama police force. The only problem is that these Obama storm troopers may not stop the mayhem once he tells them to stop. Obama may then be forced to declare a “Night of The Long Knives” type crack down as Hitler did with Rohmn and the Brown SWhirts.
There’s not a ghost of a chance such a strategy would be successful. The OWS crowd as his brownshirts? Those spoiled, self-indulgent (unarmed) children? Not a chance.
I think a few things need to be explained here.
1. I don’t see too many folks taking the long view on this. I watched it happen with the Delta announcement to purchase an oil refinery and all of the naysayers who thought it was a big mistake on Delta’s part. I watched it with Microsoft’s announcement of a Windows 8 Tablet (stay tuned, this is going to be a winner in the enterprise space for the boys and girls at Redmond, same with Windows phone 8). Folks tend to confuse conventional wisdom with common sense, they do so at their own peril. These companies have amped up their chess game while everyone else is still playing checkers. The same holds with the Roberts pronouncement.
2. Justice Roberts did the correct thing by declaring this a tax and not giving the Commerce Clause any more teeth. It now puts this back into the political sphere where it will more than likely fall by the wayside. Reconciliation is a tool that only requires a simple majority and can be used with great effectiveness. Although largely symbolic, the vote scheduled by the House next week is a step in the right direction. The President and the Democrats claimed that this wasn’t a tax. By this ruling, the court has exposed it for what it really is, and for this, we should be grateful.
3. The Tea Parties had a significant impact on the Congressional elections in 2010, lest we all forget. That was in no small part due to the passage of the health care law. Had the law been declared unconstitutional by SCOTUS, I think that there would not be the re-energizing of the base to go out and defeat the President and incumbent Democrats up for reelection this year that we are starting to witness.
Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes and happen at incongruous times. Knowing when and how to take advantage of them is the real trick.
Sharp post, particularly #2. People really need to be patient as the ramifications of the Roberts decision unfold; they will very likely spell doom for the ACA (not to mention Obama’s reelection chances).
My feeling has been for some time that if Obama is re-elected he will spend his next term trying to strike down the 2 term limit- this really scares me folks
I’m not sure that fear is justified. I’m sure Obama would love to get rid of the two term limit and become President-for-Life but I’m not sure if there will be much left to destroy if he succeeds in completing a second term.

Indeed we have the same situation here in Canada (The Great White North). Despite a majority Conservative government, we have a civil service openly defying Parliament.

DOMA was originally largely prophylactic; it was enacted before same-sex marriage had really gotten its hooks into a few states—and, frankly, despite the crowds that appear to weep with joy before the cameras when a new state falls, relatively few people have bothered to avail themselves of same-sex marriage. It has taken a while to gin up a case that could be litigated.
That is because same-sex marriage is largely a creature of gay-rights lobby, not the homosexually-inclined populace, though the gay-rights lobby has been adept at stampeding both the homosexual populace and a gullible portion of the larger population into accepting its skewed vision of equality. What most of these people are unaware of is that the destruction of marriage was a founding principle of the post-Stonewall gay-rights movement—and there has never been any public discussion of how or why “marriage” went from the movement’s must-destroy to the movement’s must-have.
The gay-rights lobby has spent much energy in proclaiming the “difference” of the “gay community” (another fraud, but one to be discussed at another time). It now seeks to have it both ways—to have its “difference” celebrated while demanding a nonexistent “right” on the basis of “equality.”
Those who say that same-sex marriage is a stalking horse for an attack on traditional religion are quite right. There has been no greater foe of the First Amendment for the last forty years than the gay-rights movement, from its creation of the pseudoscientific fraud of “homophobia” to its backing of “hate speech” First Amendment restrictions and “hate crime” laws. The lobby has already attacked private businesses under equal protection claims when the businesses declined same-sex marriage business; that will only increase.
