Mr Leeden asks an important question when he asks “First, if it’s right to intervene to save Libyan lives, then why isn’t it right to save Iranian, Syrian, Congolese, Sudanese, North Korean and Chinese lives, as well as millions of others?”
What is the basis of our actions. I claim no one has shown why it is in America’s interest to depose Gadaffi – A neutered American enemy. No one is saying Gadaffi is an American friend. He is a neutered American enemy. The same cannot be said of the forces trying to oust him.
Lebanon sponsored the UN resolution to authorize intervention. Lebanon is a significant partner in the Iran/Hezbollah/Hamas/Syria universe. They are not friends of Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda forces are the main beneficiaries of the moves against Gadaffi.
The Iran/Hezbollah/Hamas/Syria alliance AND Al Qaeda are our enemies. In this configuration I cannot see why deposing Gadaffi is in our interests.
