To be precise, in Italy the government don’t recognize Islam officially because not one of the groups is available to sign a document recognizing the Constitution of Italy.
They sign, they can take the money. But none did.
Even many moderate center-left politicians say the explicit recognition of the Constitution is needed before the government can recognize a religious group.
Buddhists, Hindus and others did it and are recognized.
