Those Hilarious Jokers in Tehran Obama Wants to Befriend

March 27th, 2014 - 11:46 am

But Zarif insists on his running gag, insisting that somehow, inexplicably, his countrymen have been targeted by “State-sponsored extremist groups” and he urges the “international community” to do something.  Fast.

This from a minister of the country that routinely wins the blue ribbon in the competition for the title of “world’s leading sponsor of terrorism.”  HoHo.

Perhaps the funniest part of Zarif’s letter is his claim that Iran is doing more than any other country to combat narcotics trafficking and transnational crime, in which Iran has long played a major role.  Iran now has the highest per capita rate of drug addiction in the world, works with narcotics traffickers from Latin America (most energetically via Venezuela), and handles a significant amount of heroin from Afghanistan, which yields plenty of hard currency for the regime’s elite.  Just ask the U.S. Treasury Department, which branded the Revolutionary Guards general in charge of the “anti-narcotics” campaign as a Specially Designated Narcotics Trafficker for his involvement in drug smuggling and supporting terrorism.

It’s right out of a Mel Brooks script, isn’t it?  And the punch line comes from the UN, which unsurprisingly praises Iran’s anti-narcotics program in language that would make Zarif blush.  Who issued the praise?  One Yuri Fedotov.  Who publicized the statement?  The Tehran Times.

Just thought you’d like to know.

The mullahfia inspires their victims to "go to the mattresses" against them...and they run to call a crooked cop on their payroll to whine about it.

The UN is corrupt and wholly lacking in credibility.

The Russian/Iranian alliance will "unexpectedly!!!" deliver Iran a gift wrapped nuke in six months or so.

China will applaud and take over much of the Pacific Ocean.

And Obama/Kerry/Jarrett/Hagel/Biden/Power will say that they are giving chance a piece.

"The letter portrays Iran as the innocent victim of state-sponsored terrorism"

The thing is this is true. The problem is it is their own government terrorizing the people of Iran. Back the opposition, get the Mulocracy out of power, and the problems will disappear.

Any truth to the rumor that Zarif will take over from Jay Carney when he leaves?

Perhaps Zarif sees our own criminal organization (the Democratic Party) and wants in.

Michael, isn't it ironic and somewhat sickening that, after all these years of your encouraging action on Iran, bigger adversaries, Russia and China, have jumped into the fray and appear about to make things messy and menacing for the US--and appear to make the Iran problem seem trivial? The two are not unconnected: by signalling weakness in the Middle East the US has virtually invited other rivals to make their moves.

You're certainly in a position to say, I told you so, but more importantly your arguments in favor of a forward policy toward potential adversaries appear stronger than ever. (But let me clarify that the concept of a "forward policy" involves a variety of proactive steps; it is not simply the idea of making war.)

it's a big war, Iran's an important enemy in a global network that includes Russia and China. as i keep saying...that's why Venezuela is so important and why Cuba, Iran and Russia will try very hard to sustain the chavista dictatorship there.

Ledeen: what do you think the goal is of this letter? Simply to state a type of propaganda where everything bad Iran does, they accuse others of doing (i.e. state sponsored terrorism)? Or is there something else?

Why do you think they didn't mention Israel by name? I mean, really, what's the point of this thing?

the "point of this thing" is to sustain a very successful deception campaign. deception is an integral part of warfare, let's not forget.

Thanks for you reply. I appreciate it.

You've essentially reminded me that there are some who are so willing to believe this sort of thing that they are "low hanging fruit" for Iran. That is, it makes sense for Iran to put out a bit of nonsense like this because it will in fact still convince and/or further "proselytize" them to Iran's cause.

My error was in forgetting that there are many people who fall into this "low hanging fruit" category. Thank you for reminding me.

Also of course, for those people who are perhaps a bit more wise, this letter still provides them "official" propaganda with which they can rebut those of us who are defenders of Western Civilization.

It's funny, not that long ago, I would have considered a phrase like "defenders of Western Civilization" as a bit comical -- a throwback perhaps to battling against the Muslim hordes in the 1400 or 1500's perhaps.

Now however, as the Chinese saying goes, "we live in interesting times" and that phrase is no longer a "send up" of anything. It is easily taken at face value nowadays (sigh).

Thanks again.

I recommend we drop 25,000,000 AK 47s around every town and village in Iran; The dictators, that parade as religious, would not last a week...
