Michael, Many thanks for the post. I've posted a link to FreeTheHikers.org over at my site. Damnable nightmare for Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd. They were kidnapped in Kurdish Iraq. Perhaps we can twist InstaBroadcaster's arm to take an interest in this too? If we don't stand and proclaim freedom for Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd - who will stand for us?

Dear Mr Ledeen,

These tourists crossed the Iranian border in a region where Iran’s military is practically fighting the terrorist P.K.K everyday. They entered the Iranian soil and they were arrested by border patrol (Same thing happens to Mexicans trying to cross U.S/Mexico border everyday). Why do you call that hostage taking when it is Iran’s very right to detain and question the violators? It is very sane to assume that they could be working for the terrorist P.K.K or trying to gather intelligence for others when they enter a war zone.

The jittery arbitrariness regimes are loves taking hostages, it works for political purpose. You can see continually hostages where Islamic tyrannized regimes rule. Unfortunately, the victims are always of tourists and Western journalists. In general, they LOVE kidnapping the western.

Considering how many times Mr. Clinton and Mr. Bush bluffed, blustered, and then back-pedalled in their efforts to contain North Korea’s nuclear program, without incurring any appreciable political fall-out domestically, why should Mr. Obama act any differently in an effort to contain Iran’s nuclear ambitions? Korea got a pass on the NPT; so will Iran.

The theofascist regime in Iran unfortunately is not going to fall next week. Or, the week after. “Purity” is the moral glue that binds both German and Iranian forms of Fascism, which means that absolutist/determinist/revivalist/millennialist theofascism in Iran is not ever going to simply implode or experience a successful ‘velvet’ revolution. This is ultimately going to be another fight to the death against puritanical, religious Fascism if Mr. Obama and others are not committed to denying Iran dual-purpose nuclear technology.

November 4 is an absolutely excellent day for the fall of the Iranian regime. For that was the day it committed causus belli(I probably have the wrong spelling) by invading sovereign US territory.

Also remember, Michael, that Gilad Schalit was kidnapped by those who crossed into Israel via tunneling from outside of Israel. So, the Iranians are hardly the only one’s to do it.
