Foundation for the Preservation of Democracies? Where have you been the last 8 years? Mr. Ledeen this is Pete from India3/7. I need someone to return some verbal vollies, are you out there? In parting I would like to say there is much more to Hippie than you saw. His father survived Iwo Jima (Iwo Toh), and his uncle survived The Bataan Death March.
It's good to look below the surface. This bit of wisdom is as timely today as is was in Narcissus' time!

Good for Capt. A. More power to him for a fuure Army career. Look how far Horatio Nelson went even after the loss of an eye and an arm.

Happy birthday to the USMC!

The tenacity of the U.S. fighting man, and especially the wounded and recovering U.S. fighting man is incredible. I was privileged to serve with a U.S. Army officer (call him CPT A) during a recent tour as a civilian advisor with 10th Mountain Div (Light Infantry) in Iraq. CPT A was commanding his patrol from his HUMVEE on a mission to interdict insurgent supply. Their vehicle was hit by an apparent EFP. The driver was killed, the gunner took serious shrapnel in the legs, an Iraqi local national interpreter took some light shrapnel and CPT A was hit in the face and especially in one eye. He was medically evacuated to CONUS and permanently lost vision in one eye. Nevertheless he is staying in the Army and even attempted to return to his unit before it redeployed. HU-AAH!

Please thanks Capt Gabriell on behalf of us. Congrats for his promotion. Indeed, the US Marines are the best fighting force in the world. I will be thinking alot more about them for the next four year since their new commander in chief really sucks.
