Accidentally sending a letter to the wrong address rarely has an outcome as nice as 8-year-old Serenity’s, and it’s truly heartwarming to see how the team at Pepco, the D.C.-based Potomac Electric Power Company, responded to the letter that they mistakenly received.

Serenity had penned a special letter for Petco to ask for a hamster, and she went on to detail how much should would appreciate a little rodent pal. Alongside the letter was a cute drawing of her dream hamster.

“Dear Petco pets,
I’m Serenity. I’m 8 years old. I live in Washington DC. I’m going to 2nd grade. May I please have a hamester because I never had a pet. I [love] hamesters because they eat carrots, and grass. I will take good care of it because I’ll let it eat. I will make sure I clean the cage. If I reseive a hamster, I will do better in school, make more friends, and become responsible.”

She ended up sending her cute little letter to Pepco instead of Petco (it wasn’t Serenity’s fault, a teacher gave her Pepco’s address by mistake!), but the crew at Pepco was so touched by her request that they asked Serenity’s parents to take her to Pepco’s headquarters for a special surprise. They presented Serenity with a hamster, a fancy cage with plenty of tubes for the little pet to explore, and accessories to help Serenity be the excellent pet owner that she has always wanted to be.

Nichelle, Serenity’s mother, noted that her daughter had studied various books about caring for hamsters over the past two years, and that their new animal pal already has a name: “Brick Hamster.” Who says that good things don’t come out of Washington, D.C.?
