Why Zach Galifianakis Won't Grill Trump 'Between Two Ferns'

The hottest talk show on the web isn’t courtesy of Jimmy Fallon or Stephen Colbert. It’s comic actor Zach Galifianakis’ signature showcase, “Between Two Ferns.”

Only the host is rather particular about the people he grills. They typically have to have a “D” before their names.

The awkward chat show doesn’t air often, typically whenever Galifianakis wants to promote a certain politician. Remember how he invited President Barack Obama on the show to prop up the administration’s flailing health care reform?

Does it matter if ObamaCare is collapsing now? We got some funny bits from it. Thanks, Zach.

Just recently, Galifianakis invited Hillary Clinton to sit “Between Two Ferns.” Why? It’s a way to shore up her support among millennials.

And, wouldn’t you know it, the clip has been viewed more than 48 million times so far. That’s far better than even the mighty Fallon can do with a typical “Tonight Show” episode.

For Clinton, who is struggling to gain the trust of millennials, the showcase was a dream come true.

So we can expect Donald Trump to get “grilled” next, right? That’s how the late night circuit typically works these days.

Not quite.

Galifianakis told the LA Times why we won’t see Trump between any ferns anytime soon.

“I wouldn’t have somebody on that’s so mentally challenged,” he said. “I feel like I’d be taking advantage of him. And you can print that.”

What he won’t tell the journalist, of course, is the actual reason why he won’t invite Trump on his show. These occasional specials are pure propaganda, tailored to the politicians in the not-so-hot seat.

Putting Trump there would only help his cause, his campaign. No matter what you think about Trump, he can be funny off the cuff and engaging in talk show settings. So he’d probably perform capably under Galifianakis’ withering line of questions.

If Trump can host “Saturday Night Live,” he could deal with a few impolite queries.

That’s the real reason why you won’t see Trump on the “Ferns” sporadic talk show. Don’t expect him to visit Seth Meyers or Stephen Colbert any time soon, either. Those hosts despise Trump, and they understand the value one of their sitdowns could have to the election.

Just know that if Clinton wins come Nov. 8, she has a reunion chat with Galifianakis waiting for her. That’s assuming one of her signature programs is teetering on disaster and she needs a funnyman to distract the public from the ugly truth.
