Much ado about nothing.

This week Ann Coulter “defended” Chris Christie. The governor is not a bully, as the papers suggest; he is only a weak-willed politician:

The gravamen of the media’s case against Christie on Bridgegate seems to be that he is a “bully” — which I painstakingly gleaned from the fact that the governor is called a “bully” 1 million times a night on MSNBC and in hundreds of blog postings and New York Times reports.

Christie is not a bully. If anything, he’s a pansy, a man terrified of the liberal media, of Wall Street, of Silicon Valley, of Obama, of Bruce Springsteen, of Mark Zuckerberg, of Chuck Schumer. It’s a good bet he’s afraid of his own shadow.

I cannot disagree. Other than preferring she left out the fat jokes, I only wonder why she would write about Christie at all at this point. Christie hasn’t been a serious interest since that lukewarm GOP convention speech, which Coulter skewers well. Why is anyone outside of New Jersey talking about him anymore?

I don’t think this is Coulter’s fault. She is following the news. Last week that led her to immigration and this week Christie—these are topics the legacy media and the GOP smart set want to debate, not topics right-leaning voters are actually concerned about right now. We expect, and the research Jonathan Haidt gave us some supporting data, that the left doesn’t understand our concerns. But the larger problem is that the GOP smart set doesn’t understand us, either.

Chris Christie fell into the untrustworthy-pol pothole months ago. Move along already.

Hell hath no fury like a woman embarrassed -- Coulter's schtick going back almost 20 years has always been to be the toughest, take-no-prisoners conservative pundit out there, and part of that was calling out Republicans for any signs of creeping RINOism. But she fell for Chris Christie's tough-guy act in 2011, and he was her presidential candidate of choice -- even when he wasn't running -- during the 2012 primary season.

Christie's questionable actions and loyalties towards the national party and the conservative movement in general were already known by then, but Ann wouldn't hear of it, and lashed out at those saying there was less to the governor than meets the eye. But the post-Sandy embrace of Obama to wheedle more disaster relief funds and then the post-Sandy Hook actions on gun control forced Coulter to repudiate her support, and opened her up to a ton of "I told you so"s from others on the right.

Christie damaged her public image, in the same way swooning over Obama in 2008 is something Peggy Noonan is still living down. He allowed others to question Ann's judgement when she questions the judgement of others on the right in supporting a particular candidate, and she'll never forgive him for that.

I think Christie thought he would be cut some slack when he got all buddy-buddy with Obama. He would do well to remember the story of the frog and the scorpion. Don't help a scorpion, it is in their nature to bite you. Helping is perceived as weakness, and when they see weakness, they attack. There is no cooperation with the left.

The Dems shelter and promote their pols, no matter their failings. Republicans bask in the glow of their supposed moral superiority, and then wonder why they lose.

President B.O. has run from failure to failure, but he's considered a historic genius deserving our respect. Chairwoman Clinton botches Benghazi, what does it matter, and she's presidential material. Billy Jeff Clinton gets a BJ from an intern, and he's embraced as a beloved senior statesman.

Christie maybe had some involvement in a traffic jam, and his career is over because the Dems call him a bully? Republican's who go all wobbly deserve to lose.

Peggy Noonan falling for ObamaNazi; Ann Coulter buying the Christie schtick. I don't get it. Apparently Bill Hicks (RIP) was spot on with his Chicks Dig Jerks meme.

No, Christie is a dedicated bully, just one who miscalculated road rage. An odd mistake for anyone to make. If the NYT wants to take out Christie it sames conservatives the trouble. Ann Coulter has lost her way for quite a while now.

I expect Christie to change parties. Good for them and good for us.

Ann was never that good. There was a time when she did look good, when she was not anorexic, and her quips and catchy phrases earned her some sympathy, even admiration. But her, Hannity, etc. are the lightweights that carry the torch of Conservatism now. There are no ideas, just mantras and a constant sense of indignation coming from that crowd. No wonder Romney and N.J. Lard appeal to them. Keep them up and get ready for six years of Hilary.

Ann is good. She backs up what she says with facts. Her books are about 20% notes in the back which cite the sources of her facts. The mantras are usually from the left as Ann points out. And indignation comes from right and left. As I recall, the left was very indignant about Pa from Duck Dynasty saying he preferred vagina to man's anus. Go figure.

It is disingenuous to take out 2 paras from AC's column in which she lays rest to Christie for a variety of reasons and suggest that Christie is Passe for his GWB scandal. GWB was not the intent of her column. yes she supported him early but dropped him quicker. Now as for the comment on her swoon for Romney--who should she have swooned for in your mind, Newt, Santorum, Bachman, or perhaps huntsman? If Romney beat them what chance did they have against BHO. The fact is Romney's skills would have made him a superior President. and for those who stayed away from the polls because Romney was not conservative for you--Let me see how Obamacare is working out for us?

She swooned over Christie. She swooned over Romney. Despite all Coulter's brilliance and sharp thinking, she seems to have a blind spot when it comes to northeast Republicans.

This is the tough part - figuring out what Coulter is all about. She's latched onto an obvious RINO and refuses to let go or believe he's really what he shows himself to be - a RINO.

Coulter is in love.

There can be no other answer to this infatuation IMO.

I suggest you read the column in full. It's hardly a defense.

Coulter's main issue is immigration, and that is the main thing she has against him (and Rubio).
