The most recent board meeting at the Orland Park Public Library was an illustration of tyrannical government in action. Currently, Orland Park Public Library allows unfiltered internet access which means access to violent porn, bestiality, the exploitation of sex trafficked women, and child pornography. They have no plans to do anything about it despite the Mayor of Orland Park joining the growing chorus for filters on all computers.

Instead, the library defends its inaction with claims of freedom of speech while public masturbators commit their fetishes in a library full of children. The public embarrassment and citizen outcry has not made one iota of difference to the hardcore leftists on the board. Their commitment to porn and the American Library Association’s insistence that it is protected in a public space (even when paid for by unwilling taxpayers) is unwavering.

I have spoken at five board meetings along with other members of the community. Each time the topic was the same. “Put filters on the computers.” Each five minute speech was tailored to a different angle pointing out different reasons why filters are necessary and constitutional. I always followed their rules and policies to the letter. But at the last meeting, even though I have followed all the rules they wrote, the board decided they had heard enough about the porn problem at their library. They arbitrarily decided we are no longer able to speak about anything relating to “computers” or “sexual misconduct” in their library. Keep in mind, these are the “free speech” people.

In the beginning of the video below, my colleague Kevin DuJan begins talking about the fact that the library is now charging money for non-residents to use unfiltered computers, thus profiting from pornography turning the library into a “sexually oriented business.” He is stopped way before he gets to this revelation because his topic is not approved by the Board of Overlords. Strangely, they keep saying they have heard this before, but they haven’t because they just instituted this policy of charging non-residents before the last board meeting so up until that day no patron was able to comment on it publicly. Pay close attention to how he switches his tactics and starts praising the library for random things. He is not interrupted. Every time he says something positive, no one interrupts him, but the minute he starts to criticize the board or the library he is stopped. Then it’s my turn and President Nancy Healy tries to shut me up several times by interrupting, arguing and banging a gavel. After they keep me from making most of my comments they turn to an Orland Park resident named Joe who has never been to a board meeting and is also not allowed to express his disappointment with the terrible internet policy.

What do you call this other than CENSORSHIP?

What a joke these people are. They bluster that those of us who don’t want porn in public libraries are trying to censor adults from hardcore porn or “information” in their words, but they have no problem actually stopping citizens and taxpayers from speaking to them! Watch. This is your government in action.

Charlie, The Supreme Court of the United States provided the solution back in 2003, in the case US vs. ALA. In that decision the Supreme Court decided the solution to this problem is for libraries to be able to have porn filters on their computers. The court ruled those are not illegal and that they do not violate free speech, as porn is not a protected right in a public library. The Village of Orland Park also has an ordinance that provides a solution, in that Ordinance 8-6-1-1 establishes that viewing porn in public is disorderly conduct. The Library refuses to call the police, in violation of the Village ordinance…and the Library refuses to install the porn filters that the Supreme Court said it could have since 2003.

Say they were smoking cigarettes; then a S.W.A.T team will roll in.

Are you kidding? I wasn't looking over anyone's shoulder. It was on the screen directly in my view in the row in front of where I was sitting. And it's not my business or anyone else's that taxpayer money is funding porn in a public building full of children? And that men are masturbating there and not being arrested? Has no one asked you where your sense is?

Simple enough, simply disallow payment for any Internet service for the library until appropriate filters and policies are in place to guard against felonies being committed. If you tighten the purse strings, it's amazing how compliant entitlement-minded bureaucrats become. It's your money, not theirs.

How does one become a member of this board? It seems that being able to put together a coherent sentence is not one of the qualifications.

It is disturbing that these decision makers can stop the citizenry from commenting and expressing their displeasure at the sordid activities that apparently are taking place in a public building with children present. Perhaps one should spend their time visiting the library with camera phone at the ready to document these illegal and offensive acts and call the police immediately when it is observed. Oh wait, it's probably against library rules to use a cell phone there. Don't want to disturb and distract the pedophiles from exercising their first amendment rights.

It's funny you said this. The library staff don't let people take pictures of the guys looking at the porn, but they let the guys look at the porn. The library has a "Patron Policy" that does not allow photos or video in the library to "protect patron privacy" but it lets people look at child porn, masturbate, frighten children, accost women, and commit all sorts of other disorderly conduct. But you can't document any of it or call the police because that is against "Patron Policy". It's like backwards-world.

So wrong . . . seriously.

I think it's time for a little civil disobedience. I would wager that documenting illegal activity trumps Patron Policy. Then I would photograph the library personnel who were enabling the illegal acts and ask that they be prosecuted for being accomplices as well as endangering minors.

You know, I wish a lawyer would chime in here. As a layman, I think that people working in the library can and should be going to jail for not reporting that child porn to the police. If the police reports are true and there were really 22 instances where there were crimes like this being committed and the library deliberately was helping these people get away with crimes…then wouldn't they be accessories after the fact? So, a guy in the Orland Park Library wants to see child porn and it's clear to him that the library staff allow him to access it there: that's crime number one. But then hours later a second crime is committed, when the library staff delete the computer records so that the police can't know who accessed the child porn. That's crime number two. I wish an ambitious and imaginative prosecutor would take a look at this. I think staff members really could go to jail over all this.

I get it. public masturbation is perfectly ok as is, I suppose, urinating in the library and or on the library is also deemed freedom of speech. because, now the mentally ill are left to rot in their own deluded virtual world. that is, instead of focusing on mental health programs and turning off the triggers of mental illness and creating Bedlam out of the library. my, how enlightened.

Since when is taking your children to a public library and objecting to the atmosphere they are subjected to considered "creeping around the library"????? Megan is a citizen taking her kids to the public library.....the library that all taxpayers PAY FOR! The disgusting behavior of those viewing porn and masturbating in public areas is what is not tolerable. And the disgusting behavior of those insufferable board members, in their arrogance and desire to not rock their cushy, well-paid boat is unbelievable. Bravo to you Megan, for taking this on.
