Chalky White
Perhaps people will start referring to Michael K. Williams as something other than the guy who played Omar on the The Wire. Chalky White is the king of Atlantic City’s black gangsters, who’s simultaneously trying to give his family a life that isn’t so gangsta. He oozes cool in every scene, like a Jules Winnfield of Prohibition. And after helping save Nucky’s life at the end of this season, Chalky will hopefully get more power in Season Four. Plus, he’s going to make a really interesting father-in-law.
I’m glad that you mentioned my favorite character Mr. Harrow, “The Tin Man”,the honorable warrior,the only character with out a material chit in the game. All he wants is his life back, his face back, and the life of love and family that he builds in his scrap book. And his loyalty to the memory of Jimmy, Angela, and Tommy, drives him to use the only skill he has, his strength as a gunman, to do all that is necessary to save Tommy. The way he clears the club, with no wingman,looks like videos from Iraq from the 2000′s. And the last offhand shot with his .308, through the same eye is masterful. I kept adding to the 63 kills he told Nucky after he killed the butcher a few weeks ago, 75 now? And “A soldier does not come home like this, go back and clean your self up.” I think he’s found a home, a real one.
Well, back to a “Storm of Swords”, winter is coming, as it always is, as it always does.
Was that a trap to see how many gunnuts you could snag?
The .308 is a NATO round that follows WWI by decades. The Springfield is 30-06.

I thought it was the sporterized 1917 Enfield that he used for a hit in the first eason, not a Springfield….

Just to add to the confusion The American Rifleman ran an article last March on the Lee Enfield #3 SMLE in .303 not as I mistakenly stated .308, carried by American troops during WWI. Seems that as usual we disarmed at the end of the Philippine Insurrection and then changed over to the Springfield .30/06 from the Krag Jorgenson. That’s what our country usually does after a great war, so we get caught flat footed as we enter the next one with a logistical supply problem. The Brits outfitted our first troops in country from their own production and licensed the rest, till the Springfield was ready to be deployed.
As an interesting side bar, on Fifth Ave there is a monument to the Lost Battalion somewhere in the 50′s or 60′s set in the wall of Central Park. That was Al Capone’s old unit. They are armed with Lee-Enfields. I always wondered why.
Capone lied about the Lost Battalion, to explain away his scar. He was never in the Army.

My wife really loves this show. Though she did make a comment that it seems virtually every woman in the series is naked at some point. Must be an HBO thing.
Much better this year than before. And not a moment too soon, I’ve given up on Game of Thrones-too complicated and not a single character I really care about.
Main issue I have with Boardwalk this year is the body count seems unrealistically high, even by 20′s gangland standards. Instead of a bunch of gangsters and locals going about their breakfast business and flirting with the waitress at the cafe in Tabor heights the day after 11 people were massacred, I would think the restaurant would have been filled with National Guard troops and cops. Don’t mind the nekkid lady scenes but the gratuitous urination shots are also getting a bit tiresome.
Stopped watching the show several weeks ago when I cancelled HBO. I feel so much better now.
Many nights I wonder, why am I watching this carnage, but oddly enough, my wife, who hates Fox, will watch all the gore and we can share something. Go figure. It DOES hold my attention.
It is interesting that the last two episodes have had literary frames; first “If” and then “Margate Sands” from “The Waste Land.”
