European Disintegration: Animal Prostitution
The central tenet of libertarianism is freedom of action as long as you don’t hurt another human. Pigs don’t count.
Live and let live. Heck, who’s to say the sow would object, if she could speak?
When you are done laughing, realize that an effort was made in Congress to amend the uniform code of military justice to legalize bestiality.
And thus we peer down from the top of the slippery slope. This is not to say that libertarianism is a bad thing. Having those strong tendencies myself, I recognize individual liberty is the law’s greatest force for good. That gave birth to this great nation and still sustains it.
The German law puts the government back in the barnyard, or in the bedroom, if you can stand the smell in the house.
To some, moral codes build and preserve civilizations. To others, moral codes impair civilization. This is the fundamental fault line of modern politics. Regular church attendees skew conservative. Secularists skew left.
German lobbyist Michael Kiok represents those supporting the freedom to run barnyard bordellos:
Lobbyist Michael Kiok, who lives with his dog Cassie, told the newspaper there were more than 100,000 zoophiles in Germany.
“Mere morals have no place in law,” he said.
Kiok fears they may take away his dog under the new law. I wonder why.
But Kiok is wrong. When 100,000 people in a nation are willing to partake in behavior so morally rotted, something has snapped. When a nation sees the proliferation of barnyard bordellos, where customers pay Farmer Pimp 100 euros for quality time with sheep and pigs, we’ve reached the bottom of the slippery slope.
Michael Kiok might argue morals have no place in the law, but he’s wrong. Sure, Hester Prynne got a raw deal. But go ahead and explain to your kids how purging morals from the law blesses us with barnyard bordellos. Just don’t expect positive outcomes several generations down the line. Modern Europe gives us a glimpse of what happens when a culture decides to self-immolate.

In a few years I’ll be able to adopt a gay cat, legalize it as my brother, and marry it.
What analogue to “Glee” on TV will that encompass in 30 years? Another “All In the Family,” as in everything. A chest of drawers, a used comic book, an ape, my sister, whatever.
Starring a man smitten by a mail box, which is played by itself.
Fail Burton, you are not far off the mark. In fact, the next generation will be more than a free for all. And all of this moral rot is not for nothing. To the contrary. It is purposefully designed. It is exactly what the radical left has been putting in place for decades:the deconstruction of society through its family oriented basis, as well as its religious underpinnings.
And for Germany not to recognize this is beyond the pale. Nazi socialism could not have come to pass without the evisceration of the Church and free for all hyper sexuality. So, if nothing is off limits, then no one is untouchable…and so on.
And if one group is most culpable, it is western academia (from public school (mis)educators onward), wherever they reside. It is they who hold the keys to future generations and that is paramount, as they indoctrinate generations of kiddies -http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/08/21/the-paradox-pitfalls-of-liberal-democracies-in-a-time-of-immoral-relativism-the-havoc-wrought-by-leftist-academia-commentary-by-adina-kutnicki/
You’re pretty much right. Hannah Arhendt (sp.) wrote in her third book on totalitarian states that Nazism rose from the decadence and perversion of the rising German Middle Class. On the street they may have been respectable and proper, but behind closed doors they were very loose morally. Simply put, they had money and time on their hands and very many instead of bettering themselves with study and such became depraved. It started off fairly mild but soon enough they were into all manner of sexual perversions.
This decline helped Hitler come to power. It wasn’t the only thing of course, but the moral rot certainly helped.
And yet it’ll still be considered discriminatory because it doesn’t make legal allowances for a man who wants to BE the cat, and claims he’s a cat trapped in a man’s body.
Soon enough, ObamaCare will provide – for free – caudaplasty (construction of a tail) and vibrissaplasty (addition of whiskers) operations. Also, ObamaCare will provide a lifetime supply of free catnip. What is there not to like?
I spent many sleepless nights trying to figure out if I am a heterosexual man or a lesbian in a man’s body.
yes, your assessment seems likely Fail Burton. there is the exception, however, of the Congo where humanoids will still provide, well, entertainment if not actual companionship.
the UN, no longer located anywhere, will codify all this.
You might recall that Germany wasn’t all that much better in the late 20′s, early 30s. And consider this, the same arguments used for gay marriage will also do for polygamy, polyandry and why then couldn’t a man marry his horse a woman her dog… ? Where’s the firewall? Ask some advocates of gay marriage where the behavioral firewall might be and all you get is blank looks. They never see past the end of their nose.
“In the Netherlands, you can order a mobile euthanasia van to your house like we order a pizza.”
I can see it now, mobile terminator gets a wrong address and… “Look here I don’t care what you say. I insist you put this mask on. You are so selfish, I have five more calls to make and I’m already an hour late.”
“But I only wanted a pizza with everything on it.”
I beleive that is a punch line in Monty Python’s “Meaning of life” where they show up because he is an organ donor and ‘but I’m still using my heart’ “Well sir you signed the card so we are here to take it”
thing is, i am beginning to wish they would park one of those vans on second avenue.
I am a Libertarian, and I can only say, Liberty works best for a population who has a bit of good sense. Where is the sensible middle? I and most people I know would not go the the Love Barn if it was free or even if they paid you to do it. That there were 100 or maybe even 1000 people in Germany that were so inclined would be believable, but 100K????? If nothing else, it shows that eugenics doesn’t work. Hitler killed all the imbeciles and lunatics in Germany, yet they managed to grow a new bumper crop in just 75 years.
Again, what happened to the sensible center that used to control democracies? Where did that go? Is it possible to have a small government and be left alone to be live your life without the idiots running amok? How did we keep the idiots from running amok a hundred years ago? Is it possible to normalize homosexuality, which I believe should be done, without normalizing bestiality, necrophilia, and other things that are rightly considered perversions and signs of mental unbalance?
My dad, who would be 95 were he still with us, used to admonish me to use my head for something besides a hat-rack when I would do the stupid things young boys are wont to do. Sage advice for the modern citizen of the West.
“Is it possible to normalize homosexuality . . . without normalizing bestiality, necrophilia, and other things that are rightly considered perversions and signs of mental unbalance?”
No.
You forgot “incest”.
But not to worry; all the above won’t happen because we so enlightened and tolerant and inclusive and all, in that we’ve legalized ‘same-sex’ marriage.
Right?
“It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and Bible.” ~ George Washington
“Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure (and) which insures to the good eternal happiness, are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments.” ~ Charles Carroll
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” ~ John Adams
What the founding fathers knew, and what modern Westerners ignore, is that liberty requires people who govern themselves. Self-governance requires universal moral law. Universal moral law requires a universal moral law giver.
No universal moral law giver; no universal moral law; no self-governance; no liberty.
“Man will ultimately be governed by God or by tyrants.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
Choose.
Oscar, you and the Founders expressed it as well as anyone can, I believe.
I’d like to try to reply further to Old Guy’s question of “How did we keep the idiots from running amok a hundred years ago?” Well, as Oscar suggested, self-control was an ideal that used to be widely promoted, and widely attempted, and it bore good fruit. There were always irresponsible people, but they used to be more frowned upon, rather than continually given government subsidies, and celebrated in movies. Charities helped people a lot, but they also usually demanded certain behaviors in return. Government assistance agencies often did the same. Cultural institutions like churches, Hollywood, libraries, schools and, believe it or not, most colleges, tended to teach personal responsibility, self-reliance and universal moral law. Hollywood for a long time had self-imposed censorship, and believe it or not, many classic movies were produced during that same time. Today, even a lot of churches fall short in the personal responsibility department. And we have libraries allowing people to look at porn on public computers.
This kind of thing even has a big effect on how we look in everyday life. Its interesting to look at pictures of fans at old baseball games in, say, the 1920′s or 1930′s. Lots of working class and middle class people would attend baseball games in those days, but, unlike today, you would often see them dressed in their better clothes–dress shirts, ties, hats, caps, etc. Compare that to today.
The old social stigmas are now mostly gone. But we now have a different set of social stigmas–Thou Shalt Not Be Homophobic, or Racist, or Sexist, or whatever. And according to today’s crazed relativists who dominate our culture, supposed homophobia or racism or sexism seem to be worse than, or at least just as bad as murder.
I stumbled on a youtube of the classic Cassius Clay / Sonny Liston fight in 1964, and was struck by that very thing… how many of the men in the audience had coats and ties. And that was not 1925, it was 1964. The last glorious year before the deluge that would leave nothing left but the animal brothels.
It’s called “progress”.
The short answer is no.
Morals are not about religion so much as they are about learning to govern one’s self and one’s urges for the good of all involved, including one’s self. Without morals and will and desire to govern themselves, the people rapidly devolve into a chaotic body that must be governed in order to protect each from the other. This is where the government steps in and takes control with nearly unlimited power (a tyranny whether soft or hard). Why do you think the left is so keen to destroy basic morality and the ability or desire to self-govern?
You can separate morality from religion (or more accurate, belief in a higher power/divine consequence) in thought exercise but not in practice. The unfortunate reality is that most people are not sufficiently self-disciplined or self-aware enough to cleave to the inconvenience of morality without some kind of force or higher ideal backing it, both of which religion provides. This is why the utopian aspirations of communists fail as well. The situation you’re describing is a transition of ownership of that higher ideal from the church to the state. There is no workable in-between. At least, not in a country with 300 million people.
<<<<<<Is it possible to normalize homosexuality, which I believe should be done, without normalizing bestiality, necrophilia, and other things that are rightly considered perversions and signs of mental unbalance?
Yes, of course — all laws say some things one might dislike or consider "icky" are still legal, while some cross the line. But a requirement is that one does not try to "prove" why from some magical first logical principle, and if that is not possible, declare it is all just "emotional bias" and everybody should just do anything they like.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’d KILL to be a necrophile!
I have to disagree. Hitler killed the intellectuals, the educated, the artists, and the (mostly) morally righteous. The rest wholeheartedly and enthusiastically encouraged, supported, and enabled it, while the world looked on, largely in silent assent of his actions. Seventy-five years on, their descendants are proving they’ve learned nothing, and are as reprehensibly decadent as ever. And again, the world looks on.
The reckoning is coming, and it will not be pretty. What’s left will be a cleaner world; I just hope there will be enough left to matter.
Whenever someone says that morals have no place in law, I always wonder what is supposed to take their place. What is the prohibition on murder, if not an expression of morals? Some moralities see no problem with murder whatsoever, but the Western moral tradition–at least so far–still sees it as undesirable. We oppose child rape, arson, armed robbery and vehicular manslaughter because they offend our moral sense of what is right. Other cultures see nothing wrong with any of these types of conduct.
In place of morals, people like this “zoophile” would have us write laws based on preferences. There is already a term for this sort of government–Anarchy.
This descent in to depravity is the Gay communities closely guarded secret and one which Left Wing moonbats, the Lame Stream EneMedia willfully turns a blind eye to.
Sorry, but I don’t get it: the Telegraph article says:
Germany to ban sex with animals.
Is that why you are upset? because they want to BAN sex with animals? doesn’t sound like it, so I can only surmise that you read into the article your previous prejudice.
Plus this:
“If you ever wondered what lies at the bottom of the slippery slope, go to Germany.”
I’d think you’d get a better perspective if you go to Greece, Argentina, or Venezuela … or indeed California or Illinois.
You seem to miss the point. Christian Adams is not upset that some German politicians are proposing to ban bestiality. Mr Adams is amused that Germany decriminalized bestiality decades ago and is now criminalizing it again. The same happened to Denmark: it decriminalized bestiality about 30 years before Germany and last year criminalized bestiality. Napoleon Bonarparte decriminalized incest in the early 1800′s and about 2 years ago France re-criminalized incest. I can go on. One sees a yo-yo phenomenon indicating a loss of moral direction. Now, Europe legitimizes same-sex marriage; soon enough when the Muslim European demographics reach the critical level, same-sex marriage will be criminalized.
Going back to bestiality. Peter Singer – a philosopher beloved by the Left – wrote that bestiality is not a bad thing. Spain passed a law giving the Great Apes many rights and protection given to humans.
The Left understands that one cannot shove more than 1 cr**p sandwich simulataneously down the throat of the masses. Same-sex marriage is not yet totally swallowed: there were recent demonstrations against same-sex marriage in France.
So the Left puts polygamy and bestiality on hold, thus the recent criminalization of bestiality and polygamy. For now. Once same-sex marriage is totally embraced, then bestiality will be mainstreamed into Western Culture.
The late ayatollah Khomenei accepted bestiality; the flesh of the animal one had sex with cannot be sold in the village/city where one lives but selling the animal flesh elsewhere is permitted.
you wrote: “I’d think you’d get a better perspective if you go to Greece, Argentina, or Venezuela”
reply: You are confusing Fiscal Slippery Slope with Moral Slippery Slope. A farmer who is having sex with his sheep can be a fiscal conservative. Germans – for the most part – are fiscal conservatives.
“Napoleon Bonarparte decriminalized incest in the early 1800′s and about 2 years ago France re-criminalized incest.”

“This chapter examines the history of the regulation of male homosexuality in France during the period from 1789 to 1815. Consensual sexual relations between adults of the same sex has been legal in France for two centuries and this is usually attributed to the influence of Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès as second consul and then arch chancellor under Napoleon Bonaparte’s government. However, Napoleon’s government never showed itself particularly tolerant of homosexual activity and it was determined to enforce the highest moral standards in France. Though the law no longer penalized “crimes against nature”, the government never hesitated to take repressive action against pederasts and sodomites.”

oh that was about homosexuality !
Never saw that “incest” was ever authorised in France
Lest we forget, the organized gay-rights movement got its start with the Communists in Germany, back around the end of WWI. The gay-rights movement in the US, which began here following WWII, was also communist-founded; the “modern,” i.e., post-Stonewall, gay-rights movement, which explicitly stated the destruction of marriage as one of its goals, was founded by New Leftists, SDSers, and Maoists. “Marriage” is now the movement’s must-have—but the attack on “heteronormativity,” which was the objective of the post-Stonewall movement, continues apace in “Queer Studies” and “Gender Studies” programs in most universities, even as the agitation for same-sex marriage continues in the society at large.
WHERE’S MY MONEY, MARE?
Watch out!!
She may NAG you till the end of time.
What’s that old saying? Germans. Either at your throat or on your sheep?
I wonder if these heavy-petting zoos have chimp pansies to appeal to the gay demographic.
I almost have trouble believing this. If true, it may be time to bomb Germany again or maybe we won’t have to if God turns them all into pillars of salt first.
my sentiments exactly
Europe and the United States have not just turned away from God, but they have spat in his face while doing so. We are told in scripture that God will not be mocked – and that applies even to mockery by nonbelievers.
I awoke on November 7 at peace with the outcome of the election with the words “Thy will be done” echoing in my mind . Deep in my heart I believe this country is about to reap the whirlwind. It will be delivered through a President and his minions and cohorts who will lead (drive?) us into the hard times we have earned. There is no reason to think that God will give us a pass on our behavior any more than he did the Israelites as Nebuchadnezzar hauled them off into captivity.
They’ll destroy themselves first — let’s hope God is no more interested in foul pillars of contaminated salt than are the rest of us. Speaking of fowl, which we weren’t, I’m surprised the Telegraph article didn’t deal with the German fetish for chickens and hares or the pleasure of a nicely proportioned catfish (fresh not frozen) — all prized and available to Germans in search of ‘something a little different, sir’. Yes, it sounds like Monty Python run wild, but it isn’t. German men still have a weird affinity for female toes, which may be the key to unlocking some of this (what, exactly gives Limburger its zesty tang?). Personally, think it better to stay well away, at least until somebody interviews Cassie.
The moral issue probably takes a distant second place to the aesthetic one: a collective EEEEWWWW!!! (carefully avoiding any ovine tone) is enough, if backed by a promise to toss away the key for decades. You will remember the famous Supreme Court opinion about porn: I can’t define it but I know it when I see it. Only a tired academic with time on his hands could find fault there.
So at what point will all those boys named Mohammad walk in to the office of anything-goes government, throw out all the books and start over with a steaming pile of Shariah Law?
And since there won’t be much we can do about it, we might as well be entertained by it. We won’t need reality TV, we’ll just watch the news.
I am going to assume this story is akin to the zombie essays on San FranFreakShow. That is, something entertaining but reflective of a small number of very strange people.
I missed out totally on the sex barn the last time I was in Germany. No one told me anything about it.
Next time you’re in Tijuana, ask the taxi driver about the donkey show.
I read that the greatest sexual experience you can have is to have sex with a chicken, and strangle it as you climax.
It apparently only works for baboons.

Montana people make a lot of jokes about sex with sheep. Now I am concerned.
Bestiality is more than simply a moral issue: many of the various STD’s that plague humanity originated in various livestock, naturally occurring in the female reproductive tracts of sheep, goats, and other animals.
Hey, JC –
In an article on a topic like this, you might want to stay away from sentences like “Having those strong tendencies myself…..”
Jus sayin’.
Men and women are forbidden from engaging in bestiality. (Leviticus 18:23) It is considered an abomination according to the Torah.
Do people not read the bible anymore? Do G-d’s laws mean nothing? This is beyond sick, it is pure evil. Mankind will sure be doomed if we do not smarten up.
So Germany is planning to once again make this illegal. As the headline in the Telegraph says: “Germany to ban sex with animals.” So what’s the big deal? Shouldn’t you be praising Germany? I agree with Snorri Godhi – looks like your prejudice is coming out. By the way, you should actually go to Germany. I live in Germany and – all (EU) politics aside – Germany in general is much better run and safer than the United States, plus lower public debt.
PETA is probably OK with this, since it involves sexuality. Depraved degenerate sexuality, but sexuality nonetheless.
I’m at a loss regarding the attempt to connect this to libertarianism–libertinism, sure, but libertarianism?
Does PETA know about this? How much money do to the animals get? Do the customers wear condoms? I see a new opportunity for the legal profession
“Mere morals have no place in law” or the concept of Right and wrong have no place in the creation of laws.
I always laugh when I hear this, all laws have a moral principle at work, it’s simply who’s morals and how they are derived that determines some peoples outrage.
I’m having a hard time figuring out why I should get worked up about the fact that a few wackos want to pay money to screw sheep. Legal or illegal, they will still be wackos, but as long as it isn’t my sheep, I don’t see how this affects me. Law is a big hammer. It should be reserved for big things that cause harm to others. Just because something is icky doesn’t mean it has to be illegal.
I have it on very good authority that Harry Reid’s girlfriend is a sheep. My source has asked to remain anonymous. Harry the burden is now on you. PROVE your girlfriend is not a sheep!
The word is out about Harry and his sheep!
Back when Lyndon Johnson was running for a seat in the Texas State Senate, he advised his campaign manager to spread a rumor that his opponent, who raised pigs on his farm, had had, shall we say, “intimate” relations with same.
His campaign manager replied, “Lyndon, we can’t call him a pig-f***er”.
Johnson replied, “The point is to make him deny it”.
Well-known story in Texas politics.

I’m reminded of the guy in Washington State who had sex with a horse. The horse on top, one might say. He was a scientist, IIRC, but didn’t seem to notice the size differential. His pals left him on the lawn outside the hospital and scattered into the night like cockroaches. No, he didn’t survive his most exciting of all desires.
Recently Spiegel published an article about plans in Germany to make sex with animals illegal. But zoophiles want to take legal action against it.
Germany to Ban Sex with Animals
http://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/germany-plans-to-outlaw-sex-with-animals-a-869402.html
Here is a story from Baltimore in days or yore.
A number of friends lived at 27th and St. Paul. One night they came home to find one of the guys in the upstairs apartment gather up his possessions on the row house law.
Apparently his other roomies came home to find him ‘honoring’ the German Shepard (sex unknown). His greatest chagrin was not being able to find his bowling trophy. Randy Newman certainly had it right about the place.
I personally am glad to see it happen. Sad for the animals who really cannot give their consent. Many accounts show that they don’t like it ‘bueno por nada’. But again Germans have no feeling for the weak.
yeah, well, some part of bestiality is understandable. i mean, otherwise, there would be nothing but people. well, apart from those rubber (?) “lifelike” sex dolls – er- girlfriend boyfriend dolls. seems to me, protecting those selfless creatures, would be worth a law or two.
Now germany is banning having sexual relations with animals. Some imbecile (non pc)agricultural ‘cowhands’ in the old days -due to intermarriage between cousins-same dna stock in small villages- but having this grotesque and vulgar bestiality legalized in the first place speaks volumes . No wonder there are all kinds of new viruses and bacteria emerging.Reeperbahn is for the choirboys compared to this. In Netherlands- the Queen’s sewcond son -who is lying in coma in a London hospital (some movement was detected)- in Holland there were opinions written- why not euthanasia for him. This is all from Thrid Reich’s Euthanasia Programs (Hartheim,Soonenheim- the precursors for Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen etc) all so legal (Peoples’ Courts/Special Findings etc)Latest from Sweden- when celebrating Jul (Yule/Christmas) in any church by pupils (students) in state schools- neither the pastors nor the students are allowed to say a word of religion or say ‘G-d’. Never before was there either the percentage of people who can read or comprehend reating (much less writing) EU has statistics about this- really mindboggling since from 1900 it was mandatory for children to attend school- at the beginning 6 yrs- later 8 yrs folk schools if they did not go to gymnasiums and lyceums.
the sun. Bestiality has been going on as long as man has access to domestic animals. It’s not surprising that there are zoophiles around. They’ve been here for 10K years or more. It’s a common joke in Central Asia that a boy’s first sexual experience is with a sheep or goat.
They’ve had laws against sex with chickens in this country since the 1600′s. This was all in the closet so to speak and is just out in the open. There are a lot of damaged people in the world and you are just seeing it in “open” societies.
Although I don’t approve of it, “bestiality should be legal, but not practiced in public.”
Toronto Girl was the ONLY commentor who cited Scripture. Indeed, we are forbidden to engage in sex with animals. the God Created the universe gave us rules to live by; rules that Exit for good reason. No, there is no deep booming voice and a lightning strike when we transgress, only the shame and diminishing the life God gave us.
Remember Sodom and Gemorah? These are two cogent examples. Let us not follow and suffer their fates, woe betide us if God gets fed up enough to turn His back on us!
Joe obviously if the relevant persons gave a flying fluke about the Bible we would not be having this conversation…..
The pig cannot speak but she might squeal on you.
BAA! means NO!
One must remember that all “naturalism” and “enviromentalism” can be traced back to Germany/Prussia over a century past. The Nazis did not discount those either; but in fact embraced it. The only item that is in fact suprising is that Germany is seemingly standing up against it.
Ah…images of Gene Wilder, in love with daisy, and strung out on Woolite! Back then, we just thought it wa funny
Now I know why wholesale destructioin was prophesied for Europe, along with massive population reduction in the middle east & elswwhere. Read Samuel Doctorian’s Five Angels of the Continents. Met the man in Indonesia in ’98 six months before his visitation. A credible witness.
Who looks at a sheep and gets an erection? Who???????
I suspect you have it backwards. But the difference is minimal. Who gets an erection and looks at a sheep?

IMO people that have sex with live animals aren’t hurting anyone so I don’t see what the problem is, bearing in mind they aren’t killing them and eating them once they are dead! Love me love my dog and all that
Re: “Mere morality has no place in law.” WRONG! Morality IS the only law! The Golden Rule of Law, which by our agreeing to it defines morality and enables trust, progress, and civilization, is incredibly simple: “Do Not Attack First.”
The opposite (the brazen rule of chaos, where one slanderously holds to the false notion that one always has the right and duty to attack everyone else first, before they can attack one first) inflicts distrust, stagnation, and barbarism on it’s practitioners and their victims (i.e: islam)!
This should, of course, apply to everyone and every thing – to children and animals. They don’t need, and probably don’t want, some adult pervert sexually attacking them.
After all, when one chooses to attack first, one self-defines as the predatory criminal aggressor, and they as one’s innocent victims; there’s no two ways about it!
Uh-huh. And all this fuss over one article from a british newspaper.
Consider the possibility that this whole thing is a huge beat up, and perhaps germany’s bestiality rates are no different to the US.
– Our bestiality rates are in fact as high as Germany’s. –
Oh, well then. I feel much better about the world now, thanks.
Europeans like to pretend they are more civilized and sophisticated then Americans. But in reality, they are savages and degenerates.
This is what happens when you have a Godless society, such as is the situation in European countries today.
And while Europeans reject Christianity, the vacuum is being filled by the most retrograde force in the world, islam.
It can also happen in a “godly” society. The major factor being what those engaging in such things believe they can get away with, for whatever reason.
The last time Islam collided with Europe, Europe was a very religious society. That nevertheless managed to produce Gilles de Rais, Erzebet Bathory, and Vlad Tepes, better known as “Dracula”. (Meaning “Son of the Dragon” before Bram Stoker construed it to mean something else entirely.)
All of the above were of the nobility, the “enlightened elite’” of their day. All of the above killed and brutalized people for their own ends. While Tepes is a national hero in Romania for his resistance to the Turks, and de Rais was a comrade of Joan of Arc, their behavior toward their own people speaks of a streak of not merely brutality, but insanity.
That was not in any way impeded by the threat of everlasting damnation.
Religion has the same problem that political “philosophies” do. That is, a belief will tend to attract those who think it gives them permission to do what they were going to do anyway.
Worry less about “godlessness”, and more about what those who regard themselves s the “thought leaders” of a society- any society- believe that they are entitled to do to everyone else.
Even the sheep.

“Mere morals have no place in law.”
Reminds me of a recent story elsewhere about the Freedom From Religion crusaders & their ever-popular parody display at Wisconsin’s capitol. As before they accompany it with a dogmatic sign proclaiming, “There are no gods, blah blah blah, there is only the natural world, blah blah.” I realized this needed the ultimate conclusion appended, what we might call Quirrell/Voldemort’s advice to ambitious primates from Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone: “There is no good and evil. There is only power, & those too weak to seek it.”
