Al Sharpton Race-Baiting Tour Heads to Virginia on October 9

October 5th, 2012 - 3:16 pm

Here is the announcement for the big event:

October 4, 2012

Dear Community Leaders:

It’s hard to comprehend that in 2012 we must fight for the right to vote in this country. But as you are well aware, that is precisely the action that is needed as voter suppression efforts work to threaten the very notion of democracy as we know it. When about 5 million Americans may be disenfranchised from the polls this November according to the Brennan Center for Justice, we understand that complacency is not an option. As Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), I would like to invite you to participate in our 2012 voter engagement efforts on October 9, 2012 in conjunction with Dr. Anthony Chandler at Cedar Street Baptist Church, 2301 Cedar St. Richmond, VA.

Continuing through Election Day, NAN’s goal is to educate and empower the electorate on how to combat new restrictive voter requirements and ultimately protect voter rights. Our voter engagement work is led by Pastor Michael A. Walrond, Jr. the head of NAN’s Ministers Division in conjunction with our partner, Education for a Better America (EBA). We will tour many of the states and cities impacted by these draconian laws and align ourselves with the local community. Our day-long program will begin with a luncheon attended by local elected officials, civil rights leaders, college presidents, youth activists and other community leaders. Teaming up with Education for a Better America, a 501(c)(3) partner, we will host a workshop during the afternoon. The evening will feature a rally at a local church where I will deliver the keynote address. A private meeting with vital community leaders will focus on creating an infrastructure in each city to continue voter education and protection.

We would like to invite you to our Richmond event which will take place at Cedar Street Baptist Church. The luncheon begins at 11 am and we invite you or one of your staff to attend the workshops from 2 pm -4 pm. At 7 pm we will host a community worship service. Additionally, we would like your support identifying community groups and leaders that you think we should invite to our other events, including our worship service. Time is of the essence in preparing communities for the upcoming election. Our concern is simple: each and every eligible American should be allowed to participate in the process regardless of party affiliation or economic standing.

If you have any questions regarding any of the events, please contact our Executive Assistant to the Director of the Minister’s Division of National Action Network, Malaika Thomas, at 917-805-9823 or by email at mthomas@nationalactionnetwork.net If you or a representative from your office plans to attend, kindly take a moment to RSVP at dcbureau@nationalactionnetwork.net

We hope to partner with you on this very critical effort.

Sincerely,

Rev. Al Sharpton

President & Founder

“No Justice, No Peace” is on the logo of his organization.  Given Sharpton’s history, we have some idea what the absence of peace looks like.
