George Lawlor, a student at Warwick University, started a firestorm when he wrote a piece for a student newspaper called The Tab, headlined “Why I Don’t Need Consent Classes.” Not only did he tell the “self-appointed teachers of consent” to “get off your fucking high horse”—even worse, in the eyes of the raunch-allergic feminists who staff Britain’s students’ unions, he posted a photo of himself holding a sign saying: “This is not what a rapist looks like.”
Cue global media outrage. Pretty much every liberal broadsheet in Christendom asked, “Well, what DOES a rapist look like?,” hinting that Lawlor, by virtue of the fact that he has XY chromosomes, does look like a rapist. A Guardian writer suggested every man in the world, including the Dalai Lama, should post photos of themselves holding a sign that says “This is what a rapist looks like.” Because, yep, any man might be a rapist. Maybe every woman in the world should post a pic of themselves with a sign saying, “This is what someone who commits infanticide looks like”? No, best not — the women who do that are a tiny minority, as are the men who rape.
A few days later, another Warwick student, Jack Hadfield, announced that he, too, would not be attending campus consent classes. We are witnessing “the demonisation of men,” he said, the promotion of the idea that “men are dangerous sex pests.”
Then came The Tab’s poll on consent classes. Sure, readers of The Tab, Britain’s spunkiest student newspaper, which often raises a very arched eyebrow at the buzzkilling shenanigans of student unions, might not be completely representative. Yet it’s striking that of the 4,440 people who voted in its poll, 2,708 said they were against consent classes, with 1,732 in favour. That’s 61 percent who don’t think they need to be told how to have sex.
The big question is: Why didn’t this happen earlier?
In a just society, the first administrators to roll out these policies would have been tarred and feathered.

Harvard University released its sexual assault statistics as part of federal regulations, and it turns out 18.1 percent of reported rapes on campus are “unfounded,” defined by Harvard police as “any report of a crime that is found to be false or baseless.”
If this number is reported anywhere in the media that’s so eager to report every faulty survey purporting to show 20 percent of women are sexually assaulted in college, you can bet they will add in all the caveats they leave out in reporting incidences of sexual assault.
They’ll say it’s “heavily edited.”

A University of Arkansas student who claimed she was sexually assaulted will face felony charges for her false report, according to the Arkansas Traveler.
Police are charging junior Lindsey Sweetin with filing a false police report. Sweetin claimed she was groped by a stranger in a parking garage on Feb. 26. But witness testimony and video surveillance cast doubt on Sweetin’s claim and she eventually admitted to lying.
“Individuals need to be held accountable for their actions,” Capt. Gary Crain of the UA police department told the Traveler. “In this case, what was reported to the police did not happen, and therefore, just like anyone else who commits a crime, they have to be held responsible.”
This was the second false report of sexual assault at the university in the past year. Previously, Julia Garcia, another student, had claimed she was raped in a different UA parking garage. Again, video surveillance proved she was lying.
I’m glad they’re punishing these women, and reporting their names.

A guidance counselor at a prestigious private school in Chester County is accused of pursuing a teen student for sex, even promising him admission to Harvard University in an effort to coerce him.
Emily Feeney, 40, of Wayne, Pa., was a swim coach and Director of College Counseling at Malvern Prep for two years. She has since been fired, District Attorney Tom Hogan said.
“The defendant was extraordinarily predatory in the way she attacked this 16-year-old boy, going after him again and again and again,” said Hogan. . . .
“When it’s happening between a 40-year-old adult and a 16-year-old child – with that difference in power and authority – that is the sort of sexual abuse that we worry about,” said Hogan.
Investigators said hundreds of emails were recovered after a search warrant. They say Feeney was sending messages from her Malvern Prep work email account.

Three years ago, one of the strangest criminal cases in recent memory began in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I live, when a young woman sent a series of text messages telling her boyfriend that a man had abducted her, followed by a series of texts, allegedly from her captor, taunting her boyfriend with threats of sexual violence. Her story was strange, and the case was fraught with complications from the get-go, but the accused ended up in prison long after the doubts outweighed the evidence.
This story is bizarre, but it’s not all that unusual: Prosecutors can prosecute even the weakest, most clearly flawed cases relentlessly, and innocent people can end up in jail.
This week, after two and a half years in prison, Mark Weiner saw his conviction vacated. It finally ended a saga in which Weiner was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to eight years in jail on charges of abducting a woman with the intent to sexually harm her. . . .
The Albemarle County prosecutor, who is elected to the post, is currently Commonwealth’s Attorney Denise Lunsford. As part of her prosecution strategy, Weiner’s trial lawyer later said, Lunsford “sought the advice of two respected detectives in the city and the county” to pinpoint where the alleged victim’s text messages had originated. Each cop concluded independently that the texts had been sent from near where Steiniger’s mother lived. Lunsford interviewed the first officer for the first time at the courthouse, just before he was scheduled to testify. He told the prosecutor he’d guess the calls came from Steiniger’s mother’s house, not the abandoned property.
Some prosecutors would call that sort of thing exculpatory information that must legally be turned over to the defense. Lunsford thanked the officer for stopping by and said she would no longer be needing his testimony after all. (This officer would later call the defense attorney and tell him what had transpired.) The second law enforcement officer offered up the same conclusion. He didn’t get to testify, either.
Railroading people on bogus rape charges seems to be a Charlottesville specialty.

The mother of a woman who says her stepfather and mother abused her for years was indicted for rape in Accomack County.
Ruth Ann Johnson, 58, of Sulpher, La., was arrested June 26 after an Accomack County grand jury indicted her June 1 on charges of rape, indecent liberties and child endangerment in connection with incidents dating to the summer of 1986.
The indictment names Johnson as an accessory before the fact in sexual crimes allegedly committed by her then-husband, Khalil Mohammed Muslimani, against her daughter, who was under age 13 at the time. . . . Spione, who said she was impregnated by Muslimani at age 11 and later gave birth to four children fathered by him, said she continues to be treated for post-traumatic stress disorder as result of the alleged abuse, which started when she was 4.
Muslimani, 68, of Onancock, Va., also was indicted in June on a total of seven counts of rape, forcible sodomy, carnal knowledge and child endangerment in cases involving Spione and another underage victim. He was arrested June 30 and remains in jail without bond.

A Tube worker, who dialled 999 at 5am to falsely claim she had been raped in the street, was jailed for eight months at the Old Bailey today.
Comfort Yinusa, 23, accused two men of attacking her outside a club near Liverpool Street station.
Judge Peter Rook told her: “You have let down genuine rape victims, your actions led to a costly and unnecessary police investigation and two innocent men being put through the trauma of arrest and the procedures that follows.”
Yinusa had claimed she had left the Dollhouse club with the two men and made the allegation after phoning her boyfriend in distress and asking to be picked up.
Two police officers and an ambulance with two paramedics were sent to investigate and treat any injuries.
But detectives discovered CCTV footage in a nearby McDonald’s restaurant showed Yinusa and her two alleged attackers laughing together.
Phone records showed one of the men was combing streets of the City looking for his car when the alleged rape was said to have happened.
Police were able to track down the two men who spent six weeks each on police bail before suspicion was dropped.
More than £3,000 was wasted on forensic lines of inquiry before her lies could be proved and she was arrested in December 2013.
At first Yinusa pleaded not guilty to doing actions intended to pervert the course of justice but changed her plea before she was due to go on trial last month.
The Brits seem to be better at actually punishing false accusers.

Another University of Minnesota official, Katie Eichele of the Aurora Center, “a safe and confidential space” for victims of sexual assault, suggested that no one should judge the unidentified student who made the armed rape allegations police don’t believe.
“The victim-survivor is the most important person in all of this, and supporting what it is they’re going through and what they may want in the process,” Eichele told the newspaper.
Well, when you lie about being raped, you’re not a “victim/survivor.” You’re a perpetrator. But acknowledging that would harm the campus victim-industrial complex.

Amber Leigh Anderson, 27, a math teacher, engaged in the relationship with the student mostly during summer 2013 when the boy was a 15-year-old freshman at the school, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report.
In April 2013, another student gave the victim Anderson’s cellphone number. As time progressed, Anderson and the victim “became extremely close to one another,” the Sheriff’s Office report says.
Text messages between the two soon became sexually charged, and in July, Anderson began having sex with the student, the report says.
The relationship lasted a few more months until the boy’s mother found some of the text messages on her son’s cellphone that had been sent by Anderson. At that point, the mother confronted the teacher, told her to quit texting her son and “reported the matter to the school’s administration,” the report says, effectively bringing an end to the relationship between Anderson and the student.
Is it just me, or do these women all have a certain look?

After the interview, police reviewed video footage from the Harmon Parking Garage during the time that Sweetin said the incident happened. Detectives did not find any men in the video matching the description Sweetin provided them. Detectives also spoke to potential witnesses who were in the garage at that time, and they told officers they did not hear or see anything out of the ordinary.
On March 11, Detective Josh Bowen interviewed Sweetin again at UAPD. Detective Bowen asked Sweetin if she was telling the truth about the incident, and Sweetin said no. When asked why she would lie, Sweetin said she did see a man that matched the description she gave on Dickson Street and he scared her, but that the man never followed her into the Harmon deck.

A Vancouver Island teacher who was falsely accused of raping and torturing a student is seeking compensation after the girl’s claims were found to be based on a popular TV crime show.
Donald Barber was suspended in 2012 after the then-Grade 10 student came forward saying the veteran teacher had been sadistically assaulting her for years.
The girl reported being raped, tortured, and burned to the point of scarring, according to an arbitration decision last year. Diary entries describe her alleged encounters with Barber, including one where she said she was sold to a uniformed police officer for sex.
Barber was arrested, then suspended. But charges were never laid due to a lack of evidence.
The Qualicum school district hired lawyer Marli Rusen to look into the case. Her 2013 investigation supported the student’s allegations, and recommended that Barber be banned from the school district altogether. Soon after, Barber was fired.
The longtime teacher with a spotless record fought for his job. Ultimately, an arbitration hearing uncovered that all of the student’s claims were lifted from the TV show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” The girl testified that she had watched every episode of the drama at least three times, and some as many as 10 times.
Hysteria: It’s real, not a male chauvinist invention.

Shelley Dufresne, one of two former Destrehan High School teachers accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, has agreed to a plea deal that will allow her to avoid any prison time or having to register as a sex offender, at least for now.
The St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office and Dufresne’s attorney, Deanne Williams, announced the deal during a status conference Thursday morning at 29th Judicial District Court in Hahnville.
Dufresne, 32, was facing one felony count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, which carried a potential sentence of up to a decade in prison and a $5,000 fine. The charge stems from an alleged sexual encounter with the teenager at a home in Montz.
As part of the deal unveiled Thursday, Dufresne pleaded guilty to one felony count of obscenity and received a deferred sentence of three years in prison, three years of active probation and a $1,000 fine.
I rather doubt that a male teacher would have gotten such a good deal, but I may be wrong.

A Chicago Uber driver’s instinct to record his conversation with a woman he picked up for a ride in November has saved him from spending years behind bars.
Maxime Fohounhedo, a 30-year-old native of Benin, was released from a Cook County jail on Monday after spending the past four months there.
Fohounhedo was arrested in December after a 22-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at his apartment on Nov. 16. The woman claimed that she was passed out during her ride in Fouhounhedo’s car, but his secret recording provides evidence that she was awake and carrying on a conversation. After prosecutors verified the audio they consulted with the accuser, and she decided to drop charges.
“He had a gut feeling he needed to protect himself,” Shady Yassin, Fohounhedo’s attorney, told CBS Chicago of his client’s decision to record his fare.
She was a predator. He should sue her for costing him four months in jail, and her name should be public now. She’s not a victim of sexual violence, she’s a perpetrator.

A girl who falsely accused two army soldiers of trying to rape her because she felt ashamed about sleeping with them both has been jailed.
Nicole Richess, 20, had a drunken threesome with the two servicemen at a friend’s house and then her own home at the end of a night out.
The following day her boyfriend, Alex Ganter, heard rumours she had been unfaithful and confronted her.
Richess ‘panicked’ and made up the false claim that the two innocent men, aged 23 and 24, had forced themselves on her because she was too ashamed to tell Mr Ganter she had cheated on him.
Mr Ganter, her partner of three years, made her go to the police to report the ‘attack’.
Richess even gave a ‘tearful’ account of the co-called crime to officers and ‘illicitly gained their empathy.’
Her ‘deceitful web of lies’ resulted in the arrest of the two soldiers, leaving them ‘distraught and petrified.’
However, officers began to realise Richess was lying when they gathered the accounts of the soldiers and her friends and she was charged with perverting the course of justice.
Funny, I’m constantly being told that women never lie about rape. And I like this:
Judge Jonathan Fuller QC said: “You made a determined and prolonged attempt to weave a picture of deceit to further your ends and you were prepared to make wholly false allegations of attempted rape against these innocent young men.
“The impact on these victims cannot be understated and false allegations of rape and attempted rape can have dreadful consequences.
“Every occasion of a proved false allegation has an insidious effect on public confidence, sometimes allowing doubts to creep into when one shouldn’t exist.
“Your offence has a corrosive effect on criminal justice.”
Lying about rape is a very serious offense, one that deserves serious punishment. But note that it’s still a man’s fault somehow:
In mitigation, Tony Ventham said Richess – who is seven-and-a-half months pregnant by her current partner – said she felt pressured in to reporting the false claims because her former boyfriend was ‘violent’ and ‘controlling’.
Richess had also taken cocaine for the first time that night.
Mr Ventham said: “She called the police because she was in a panic and because she’s stupid and immature.”
He added: “In December the following month she tried to commit suicide and had been struggling with depression ever since.”
Richess was told she would start her sentence in a young offenders’ institute.
Still, at least there’s some accountability.

If she violates the conditions of her sentence, Gilles could face four years in prison.”
Would a male teacher have gotten probation? I kinda doubt it.

Grant was dismayed by letters asking for leniency for Ronk, a former teacher at Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights, but making no mention of concern for the boy.
“You are dealing with children that are still developing emotionally,” Grant said Wednesday. “To have this continuing double standard is unacceptable. The law does not recognize a double standard, the law is clearly on point in terms that these children are developing human beings. This was a person in position with power and influence over him.”

For Bradshaw, it’s now about focusing on his family and moving forward.
“I would like to explore possibilities into what I could do to make sure this doesn’t happen again to somebody,” said Bradshaw. “I feel a little nervous for anyone that honestly bumps into her, simply because this isn’t a one-time thing, history has shown.”
Bradshaw said that he is now applying for jobs to help support his family, but he won’t be going back into the bar-tending business.
His attorney said they will discuss the possibility of filing charges against his accuser. The accuser said Bradshaw was impersonating a Marine, but Bradshaw said he actually served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years.
Given this history, charges probably should never have been brought.
