DEEDEE RAMONE IS DEAD. Damn. “I wanna be sedated” makes my top-ten list.

Yes, and the Ramones just got inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame about 3 months ago. Joey just died last year. It’s been an up and down year for Ramones’ fans.

dammit, and dee dee crossed in front of my at sunset and highland about two weeks ago and i didn’t shout out and give him and “thanks!” or an “i love you” or anything.

  3. Eric Olsen says:

Dee Dee was a junkie for about 35 years – it was, unfortunately, inevitable. It is remarkable he lived as long as he did. As Neil Young said, “Every junkie’s like a setting sun.”

  4. Pejman Yousefzadeh says:

First I turned 30 this past Sunday. Then Deedee died? Holy crap, I’m old.

“I Wanna Be Sedated” has always been one of my favorite Ramone songs, too. I always find myself humming it when I’m reviewing requests for sedatives from my patients.

  6. Jeffersonian says:

Damn. First Joey, now DeeDee. Sad, sad, sad. The Ramones virtually defined my college days and the anarchy we loved in that era. “Rocket to Russia” and “Road to Ruin” are cherished albums chock full of three-chord mayhem that deserved their place in the Hall of Fame. RIP DeeDee and Gabba-gabba-hey. See you on the flip side, amigo.

I’m not a Ramones fan, but by gosh, reading that article revitalized my dreams to become drugged out rock star! Screw philosophy!

Ah well, there’s just nothing more pathetic than a decades-long ride down the road of self-destruction. (I’ve been around too many drug addicts to have any sympathy.)

  8. Howard Owens says:

Amazingly, Keith Richards is still alive.

  9. James says:

    Keith Richards is clean.

Dee Dee was never able to kick it. :(

Barbara Ramone (the missus) found him on the couch. That had to be bad.

  10. Mike says:

    Damn. Damn, damn, damn.

  11. Captain Mojo says:

Keith Richards can afford to be clean, he’s got enough junk stored up to last for decades.

Dee Dee dying is a real bummer. It was just last summer that he was on a solo tour and played at a place very near my home. I didn’t go. Both Joey, the front man, and Johnny, the atitude, got a lot of attention, but no one really remembers how important Dee Dee was to the Ramones. He wrote a hell of a lot of their songs, and in my opinion, many of their best songs.

    Lame-ass.

  12. Jack Tanner says:

Instead of half-assed drug prevention adds they just need to show what happens to washed up rock stars. I remember when Mickey Mantle and Jerry Garcia both died in the same week. If that wasn’t proof that drugs and alcohol would kill ya, what is?

November 13, 1987. Greenville NC. Dee Dee’s room at the Holiday Inn. Two teenaged girls in bikini’s (ones passed out on the floor). My bud just scored some coke for Dee Dee. We light up some hot dog sized blunts. Dee Dee goes on about Phil and Syd for hours. One girl leaves. The other girl’s boyfriend tries to retrieve her but Dee Dee says he’ll have his roadies drop her off later. Joey appears in the door draped over a girl and says “Dee Dee, come to my room.” Dee says sure and keeps on going about Phil and Syd.

    Rock on Dee Dee.
