Neither he nor McCain were perfect, but the conservatives that stayed home in 2008 and 2012 because those guys didn't fit into their one-issue mindset should be ashamed of themselves. They are the ones that allowed the low-information voters to put an in-over-his-head community organizer in the White House. Now we all are suffering for it.

You are deeply mistaken. I worked for Mccain and reluctantly voted for Romney. I deeply regret both and am a bit ashamed of myself for voting for Romney. There is a reason this nation is crushed by debt and suffers from corruption. There is no alternative because the GOP has become so hellbent on power that it keeps nominating weasels who will say anything to win. Without standards held, the GOP has lost its way, utterly. A vote for Romney cannot be defended ideologically. It must be defended simply because the other guy was bad. Both parties have devolved to this argument, which is why, amusingly, both party's leadership have never been more similar, and both party's rank and file have never been more hostile towards eachother. We are being conned, played, suckered, fooled.

Look at any issue. Any. Balanced budget? the GOP deleted the concept of a debt ceiling. The GOP did that! The only thing left restraining spending. Immigration? Romney went from a primary act as the most anti amnesty guy out there to urging amnesty a couple of months ago. It's a painful list. oh, but this election is always different in that it is the last chance we have to avoid disaster and have to get really upset at the other side and just show up and do our duty. It's so bad that there are people like you saying I should be ashamed of myself if I don't vote for someone I don't even agree with. The GOP feels like it owns conservatives, rather than serves them.

Maybe you should adjust your shaming and point it at those who nominated a man the conservatives wouldn't vote for. If you're so hellbent on winning, then do what it takes to win and learn your lesson from who the right (and the country) rejected in the last two generals. Supporting Romney in the primary was the same thing as pulling the lever for Obama, I say, since it was so predictable he would not win without the support of the conservatives, which he was not entitled to any more than Obama was.

I can only vote for the options put in front of me. Like I said, neither of those men were perfect. But not voting at all is allows others side to set the agenda...which is what happened, and is a far worse outcome than holding your nose and voting for a candidate you don't love.

I think comparing Obama and Romney to perfect is fairly ridiculous from the standpoint of supporting limited government, honesty, and a balanced budget, as both have a clear track record of flip flops, massive power grabs, and deficit spending (Romney in particular).

By taking a major voting bloc for granted, the GOP lost an election that they could have easily won. Not that I really think it matters. You say the other side sets the agenda, but I observe Mcconnell and Boehner and note you are simply mistaken on that. Either way, the agenda is basically the same.

There's only one way to fix that. There has to be a political option other than this, as you seem to recognize. How do we get there if we keep the biggest obstacle to a conservative option afloat?

He's always been likeable. But he made the mistake of hiring campaign consultants and he never felt comfortable touting himself and his successes. Plus, he's a Mormon, which automatically stirs up hatred from evangelicals.

Keep hearing that evangelicals hated him because he was Mormon. I never encountered that. More evangelicals seem to have had the same problems with Romney that others had.

It's like most hate accusations. The hate and prejudice is clearly coming from the accuser. I know a lot of evangelicals who supported Romney and none who didn't over his religion. I saw a lot of evangelicals denounce that kind of thing. Polls showed they were the most loyal bloc that came out for Romney. Yet the prejudice against that group continues, perhaps as some sort of bigoted scapegoat.

I'm neither evangelical nor Mormon, but your observations match my own. And for the record, I think Mormons are pretty creepy, but I'd vote for a Satanist if he just agreed to stay out of my business, lower my taxes and keep his hands off my guns. Three things that Mitt Romney never would have done.

That's the kind of consistency that should make you eminently qualified to work for Obama or Hillary.

Well I think Mormons are great, and I did vote for Romney, but I again note there has been research into that accusation. That isn't why Romney lost. Also, the election wasn't rigged. He simply lost because the American people didn't want him to be their president. I disagreed, but actually understand why most people rejected Romney. Those who don't get it probably turn to excuses like rigged or anti mormon because they just can't understand why Obama won.

Hopefully those confused sorts of folks will not pick the next candidate, huh?
