The first stage in correcting ignorance is willingness to ask whether you might be wrong. Don't knock him for doing that. Thinking earplugs are bullets is hilarious, but still... most reporters would just have reported that they saw rubber bullets in the street.

Poor lad - this is how he squandered his new-found notoriety from the big arrest. Gone in a flash of stupidity. Of course a lot of his readers probably would have been confused too - you know - the ones who're all for gun control and think that when gun magazines are empty you throw them out.

It's all very well to say, "at least he asked," but it's not much of an excuse. It is better to be thought a fool than to ask a dumbass question on Twitter and remove all doubt. Try this: go to the Google search bar in your browser and type the words 'rubber bullets'. The first link is the Wikipedia entry on baton rounds. SPOILER ALERT: they will not fit in your ear, unless fired at extremely high velocity.
