Ya'll should not forget the first rule of fighting in Texas.....never take a knife to a gunfight.

Fortunately, the woman involved is black. If the same thing happened and she happened to be white, or even half white, we undoubtedly would have to sit through more lectures on how this is indicative of white privilege and how we're all secretly racist.

But....but....she's Black!

Does Texas law require such a case to be referred to a grand jury? This woman has to incur thousands of dollars in legal counsel, for what?

I predict that this will attract zero attention among those interested in ending SYG laws. It does not fit narrative. If anything, this is an instance where even the left will be forced to accept its justification if pressed, though without enthusiasm, since it shows a black woman (will we be told she's a single mother who looks like Michelle?) defending herself from the predatory male. In this telling, his color is unimportant.

Actually, this is a SYG case, she could clearly have retreated. I think she walks.

The most interesting things about this one are the fact that she took pictures of the dead guy after she shot him and she left the scene after killing him. WTF???

The woman could not retreat: the man (we are told) had a knife, and he was close enough to use it. He was faster than her and could close the remaining distance if she stepped back or fled.

He was also stronger than her as demonstrated by the effects of the one punch.

As the old saying goes, God made men, Colt made them equal.

Any dispute of legitimate self defense has to take into account what the perpetrator is doing -- in this case he was aggressive, closing the distance, actually striking her, wielding a knife, and closing again.

Judging solely from the reports, there is no reason why this should go to a grand jury, unless of course Texas laws in the event of a fatality requires it. Here's what an aggressive anti-gun prosecutor will say to the defendant in front of the grand jury: "yes, he had a knife, but when he closed with you, he used his fist, not the knife, what made you think he would actually use the knife and therefore you had to escalate the event to firing your weapon and killing him".

What color was the knife?

I don't think it' a SYG case. I think it's good old fashioned self defense. Weird that she just up and left afterwards, though.
