Sadly…if I were a heavy-weight Mullah….those Danes would really bother me at night…knowing they sitting there…contemplating how to add one more little feature on a little cartoon and twist my turban tighter around my head and cut off the blood flow.

Danes have a simple weapon that most extreme Muslims can’t stand. Its the same weapon that the Brits have used…the Americans…the Canadians…and even the Aussies. Its humor. It carves a big chunk out of serious life issues. Beng a true Muslim…your humor factor is pretty limited…and I think the Danes know that. The thing is…they won’t limit themselves…they might draw Christ asking a stupid question, or the Pope on a donkey, or woman whoomping her husband for some minor reason.

The mere fact that cartoons are creating a ripple across society…must mean that the intended effects are working. So full speed ahead.

We all know it means prejudice against homosexuals. The function of the “fear” component of the word could also be understood to mock those who have tried to cover their fear with hatred. So the way that the suffix -phobia is used with regard to homosexuals is what was capitalized upon by those who coined “Islamophobia”, and it was a clever political move for them. But if it hadn’t been this word, it would have been another because it is necessary to be able to talk about the phenomenon.

The way a word is used and understood is what it “means.”

So why was it “not smart” for him to use it? Was it because there is not a current tendency toward fear and prejudice about Islam and Muslims? You can only harm your credibility by denying such a trend. And it is no small movement. You also walk a very fine line by claiming that “criticizing a set of ideas” is fundamentally unrelated to the discrimination experienced by average Muslims.

Although Kurt Westergaard has more concrete reasons perhaps than most, he said a mouthful – and summed up feelings for many in the West – when he recently said, “I have turned fear into anger and indignation.”
