As I watched Clift, I realized that she has been sitting on thes talkshows for decades, and in the course of her career she has probably had contact with lots of blacks who have learned to negotiate the arugula and wagyu circuit. But of these she needs the ones who continue to play the race card against the unwashed masses of whites so she can feel superior. And her black associates have learned exactly how to dose out the race card to keep them edgy enough to feed Clift’s needs without threatening their own position. After all, they wouldn’t keep their pundit jobs if they attacked the condescension of the liberal punditry.

While all this is going on, Clift is saved from having to visit a gang neighborhood at 8PM on a Friday night. She is saved from having to watch middle school kids stop learning because that’s acting white. She is saved from an honest talk with a 15 year old girl who wants a baby so she’ll have someone to love her. And all those whites who think these problems are being ignored, all those who hate the ruined chances of these young people are being called racist. But Clift only cares that she is not seen as one of them.
