Sterling Cooper Clipper Meltdown

April 26th, 2014 - 3:35 pm

Additionally, Douglas quotes articles from leftwing journalists at the L.A. Times and the Huffington Post each accusing Sterling of racism:

A Google search with the name Donald Sterling and racial discrimination found nearly 12,000 results. Not one of them even remotely had Sterling doing anything to further racial goodwill. The checklist of reported Sterling racial escapades include a Justice Department housing discrimination lawsuit and forced settlement, slurs and gaffes against Hispanics and African-Americans, and that includes two high profile Clipper players, the shooing of minorities away from his pricey Beverly Hills condos and rentals, and an overblown and failed promise to build a Homeless shelter on L.A.s skid row. Then there’s the allegations and lawsuit by former Clipper General Manager Elgin Baylor that Sterling runs his operations like a Southern plantation.

“So, enjoy watching the sick racist Democrats squirm under the news of Sterling’s racism. That is, until the next distraction squirrel! runs our from the bushes,” Douglas concludes.

In 1962, George Preston Marshall (a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1932 and 1936) was the owner of the Washington Redskins and a stone cold racist — he was the last owner of the NFL to integrate his team, under the orders of NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle and Bobby Kennedy (in-between wiretapping Martin Luther King). If the TMZ tape is accurate, how can someone own a professional basketball team in 2014 and display that level of racism?

Sterling’s not-so-sterling leftwing worldview is merely a symptom of a much larger disease. After you’ve read Douglas’ post, checkout Jonah Goldberg’s latest G-File, in which, as he puts it “America Eats Itself,” noting that “America’s elite culture is in the painful throes of an ongoing autoimmune crisis,” Jonah concludes.

Update: As Jonah would say — though I may have the spelling slightly off — Schwheeeeoooooo:

More at the Daily Caller: “Race hate spewing Clippers owner is Democratic donor.”

Um... excuse me?..

"White people caused"?.. That is like saying when the Nazi's occupied Europe, that "white people started or began WW II", while technically not incorrect, it broad brush asigns racial guilt to people who opposed the Nazi's as well..

let's be honest completely here, the social justice ideology of the left created the urban nightmares which tore black families apart,.. opposition to that destruction was slandered and smeared as republican " racism",.. I'm old enough to have seen it real time,

It wasn't "white people" who harmed Americans who were black, it was their Ideology.. left wing activism which harmed them,.. and that had it's share on non whites as well.

truer,.. the New Deal screwed black urban American families, the democrat party and it's reactionary dogma screwed black America, not white people as a group, because a great many of us opposed that ideology.

just reducing it to racial guilt is their game, not ours, and precision in pointing out root causes matters. Your way let's the real villians here squirm off the hook,.. no, they can't duck and hide, they have to face up to what they did in Detroit,.. and every other urban enclave they control...

70 years, democrat only rule has been an unmitigated disaster for many American cities. How can we fix it, if we let the left run away from it, only to 2 seconds later try and pin every catastrophy of their
design on the people who not only didn't have a hand in it, but opposed it...

proggresives are the real racists here, let's be completely honest about that..

your way is to share guilt, and my reply is..... Hell no it's not our fault too, and we should sure as Hell say so.

Great article! She nails it.

"I wouldn’t have spoken in the terms Bundy used – even the terms that become clearer in the full clip. But that’s not because his terms were “racist.” Allowing our thoughts and speech to be boxed in by buzzword categories like that is death to the intellectual foundation of liberty, and we can’t let ourselves be driven over the CLIF by this method. We are the biggest fools who ever walked the earth, if we sell a republic of liberty down the river because we’re afraid of challenging a rhetorical orthodoxy that functions only as a red herring.

The reason to be disciplined and have a different policy about our speech is so that we can (a) encourage people, rather than just talking incessantly about what’s wrong, and (b) shape the debate, to the benefit of our fellow men and all we hold dear, and then win it. I don’t necessarily expect Cliven Bundy to observe that kind of discipline. Rhetoric and suasion aren’t his game. But they’re mine – and they’re Charles Krauthammer’s – and if the republic is to survive, there is no one else who will step in and slap down the “racism” gambit in favor of the precise and relevant thinking on which the principles of liberty depend."

Cliven Bundy expresses concern over lower class blacks aborting their babies. Hillary Clinton accepts the Margaret Sanger award, named for someone who wanted to have blacks abort their babies.

Who's the real racist?

The guy is a registered republican. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/donald-sterling-registered-republican

Yes, he gave 4,000 dollars to state democratic candidates over 20 years ago. I am glad this site failed to provide the context.

Grade A journalism on this site as always.

1. Isn't this recording a violation of wiretapping laws? If not then no biggie. If it is then someone's butt is going to a lot toasty.

2. A professional anything that is paid millions of dollars to do a job does that job regardless of circumstances. If you can't do that then you're not a professional and you need to either find another line of work or you need to get canned so you can have the opportunity to find such work as you are able to do.

A quick check on Wiki shows that California is a state that requires consent of all parties to record a conversation. Here's the link to the penal code.

Looks like the Clippers have decided to sandbag the owner and get out of the playoffs. They gave up 66 in the first half. If that plays out to 132 pts., that's what you see in the All-Star games where guys don't play D.

It's probably what I would've done. What would be the point of playing for a championship? I suspect Sterling won't be suspended but banned. Sterling will probably have to agree to it behind the scenes; money talks.

Doc Rivers, (black, for what it's worth) coach of the Clippers, was interviewed today and said roughly: "Was I surprised at the comments? Well maybe not so much but they were still very offensive, but the team has voted to play this game and continue what we've been doing."

His comments were so gross and out of place, that you have to simply do a lot of head shaking. That doesn't mean they can or should be ignored, and I suppose the league will pry the team out of his hands before next season (team valued at over $500m). I think most of the NBA players' comments reflect that they're not really surprised by Sterling being a meathead and nobody will miss him when he's gone, and he does gotta go, with as much dispatch and dignity as anybody can manage. Then Sterling can spend full time managing his wife and girlfriends, until he's locked up in assisted living in one of his properties. IOW it's much more an individual glitch than anything widespread or social, and almost everyone involved seems to acknowledge that.

Democrat and set to receive NAACP award, doesn't that say it all about how blind liberals are to those that are actually waging the war on race.

And to think Rush Limbaugh was denied the chance to own a small piece of the St. Louis Rams because of the so-called perception created by liberals that he was a racist, homophobe, etc. The Democrats ruined his opportunity to be a part owner of an NFL team. Will the liberals in this country force the NBA commissioner to make Sterling sell the team?

"for the world to have to see so they have to call me."

Is it Republicans calling Donald Sterling or good Democrat donors, politicians and apparatchiks?

Is Boehner going to call Donald Sterling and say "Hey, I saw your girlfriend, V. Stiviano, with a black guy."? Ain't going to happen.

But apparently Democrat bigwigs do it all the time.

I believe that it's distasteful to attempt to link individual bigotry to political philosophies unless those philosophies directly espouse such bigotry as part of their principles. We need to challenge and reject bigoted world views, not use them as stereotypes against our political opponents.

When a person's bigotry is exposed, everyone who believes that bigotry is wrong should unite in condemnation of it regardless of who they are or where their political affiliations lie. All commentary should be directed at the bigot, not at those who might happen to be in the same political party.

Just as I believe it's wrong for anyone to claim that Republicans are bigots because Cliven Bundy made a bigoted statement, it's also wrong to claim that Democrats are bigots because this guy made bigoted statements. Both individuals are bigots and both live in little bubbles where their bigotry went unchallenged. Now their bigotry has been exposed. Let them be criticized harshly as individual bigots and not stereotype everyone in their political parties.
