Morgan Freeman Admits Hollywood Has Failed Its Progressive Mission
September 23rd, 2011 - 4:10 pm
Update: In the comments, a reader points out an earlier incarnation of Freeman:
Say, I rather like this man’s message. Whatever happened to him?
More: Also at Newsbusters, “Herman Cain Takes On Morgan Freeman For Calling Tea Party Racist.” Cain asks why Freeman has never been at a Tea Party. Perhaps the Dallas Tea Party could make Freeman an offer he can’t accept, lest the Tea Party stop being a faceless bogeyman, much as they did with this public access cable TV host in 2010:

Wow! I’ll bet Nora’s got lots of Beaus, aching for her womanly charms.
What a skank.
“Has Obama helped the process of eradicating racism, or has it in a strange way made it worse.”
Says the white British guy to the black American guy.
Well, it’s a nice try, to turn this execrable manner of thinking back on Mr. Freeman (whom I have always liked *sigh* ), but it just won’t wash.
When the Hollywood types and their similar bien pensant ilk go into their ever more troubled sleeps, it is not the idea that “his industry — and his ideology — must share some of the blame for that” that will keep them awake….. they will never trouble themselves to think such thoughts. Ever. They will just think that they either need to try ever harder in their activism, or that the target of their attempts (that would be, the unwashed you and me) are simply hopelessly irredeemable.
THEY however, remain eternally above it all. Remember, they cannot be “better than the masses” if the masses ever “rise to their level”, if you will, even if it happens with their lordly and wise guidance. Any satisfaction they might get from such a success would be mitigated by the fact that, all of a sudden, they are not so special any more. Who cares about your fighting anti-racist credentials any more when you’ve beaten all the racists and they are no more?
So no matter how much society may change, even in their favor in these issues, and it has mightily, there must, and will, always be racists (and homophobes, and xenophobes, etc etc) out there (again, the unwashed you and me) for the glitterati to set themselves apart from and above. Always.
And blaming themselves for racism, or “racism” as it exists today? What, are you kidding? When have these people ever blamed themselves, or taken any responsibility for the negative consequences of anything that they ever do?
As with 90% of the problems today, I would say, it is entirely about these people feeling better about their souls and more smug about their role in the world, regardless of whatever effect it has on the world around them. They quite simply, “mean well”, are utterly convinced of their moral superiority, and thus can do no wrong.
And into the abyss they carry us all.
I think you identified the central issue here: people clinging to a worldview in a world of change. I’m 50, and for most of my life it would have been IMPOSSIBLE to have a black President for the very reasons Freeman and Ephron point out. The mere fact that America has elected a black man as President PROVES that the country, as a whole, is less racist than it was even 20 years ago.
These people can’t handle the fact that a black President, ground-breaking as he may be, still has to take the heat that comes with the office. The enemies that come with the office, in fact. References to Clinton are appropriate. Obama is currently the subject of an intense propaganda war. So far, no one has appointed a special investigator to look into his background, forced him to testify before Congress, or seriously considered impeaching him.
Morgan Freeman – born 1937
Nora Ephron – born 1941
Old farts who can’t get over the fact that the world is changing.
We all suffer moments of bigotry even if we’re not bigoted all the time on all issues. When we accuse an entire group of having a negative quality while this is never the case (even if the group’s majority could be labeled guilty) then we are bigots. You are bigoted toward “old farts.” This old fart, born in 1927, frequently is also guilty by indicting all the 50 year old brats of a ton of negatives while I’m certain there must be exceptions.
Oh, and this stupidity by Morgan Freeman completely wipes out the most eloquent speech he gave on race.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeixtYS-P3s
Yep, freeman outs himself as a racist and typical bigoted progressive trash. All I can add is when they tell you who they are… believe them.
Well, supposedly MF has been having an affair with his step-GRANDDAUGHTER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D3f-RPBnC8&feature=player_embedded
I wonder if he would say folks who find that distasteful are raaaaacists too? Probably.
– uh, what’s his name? Friedman? STFU and sing!
Did Freeman marry his grand-daughter by adoption yet? Just asking.
That’s rich. Morgan Freeman lecturing me on my moral faults. Next we’ll have Roseanne Barr’s diet tips and Charlie Sheen lecturing on sobriety. These guys crack me up every day.
Reading Nora Ephron the inevitable conclusion is that if you voted for Hillary you’re a racist, and if you voted for Obama you’re a male chauvinist. If you’re a white man, your vote in the primary has nothing to do with what you think of each candidate’s policies, character, or prospects, but merely indicates which of your immoral tendencies is more dominant.
What’s common to both Freeman’s and Ephron’s thinking (if you can call it that) is that they both believe that people’s opinions about a candidate or a president are shaped solely by a single physical characteristic (being black, being a woman). All the rest – policies, results, character – are irrelevant. Seriously, who votes for a president based on achievements? Are you kidding? Nobody cares about such things as unemployment, inflation, national debt, security. You vote for a president like you pick up a Tshirt in a store – by its shape and color. If you don’t buy the shirt it can only be because you don’t like its color. Same for the president.
These actor types spend a lot of time talking to mirrors. This explains a lot.
What they are saying proves to me that they are the racists here. They see it everywhere even when it doesn’t exist there.
“This is an election about whether the people of Pennsylvania hate blacks more than they hate women.”
So by following this “logic” to it’s conclusion, the only way to avoid being labeled as either a misogynist or a racist is to avoid voting Democratic. Brilliant.
One has to feel sorry for Nora, though. This is the kind she dated. I guess this is the kind one can find in LA.
“white men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them.”
In Israel skin colors range between white and black, so although I don’t date much, I did date most of the spectrum during my lifetime, and had equal numbers of boyfriends with light skin and dark skin. And according to my experience, they are equally trustworthy. That is, some individual men (of whatever skin color) are kind, honest and reliable, and other individual men (of whatever skin color) are jerks.
I realize Ephron was trying to joke, but imagine the uproar if she said the same thing about black men. Why is it permissible to lump all white men together like that and paint all of them with a broad immoral brush just because they happened to be born with a certain set of pigments and not another?
That Nora wench really hates white men. Sounds to me that the only thing that would satisfy her would be to totally disenfranchise white men by disallowing them to vote.
Apparently Morgan Freeman is an actor because he’s not very good when he doesn’t have somebody else writing his lines for him. What’s saddest about this guy, his cluelessness, his incoherence or his racism?
I’m not surprised Morgan Freeman feels this way rejecting the Hostage Taking Barbarian Nihilistic Republican Bolshevik Republican Tea Party Freedom Fighting SOBs and their vision for the future. Sometime when thing change in the country in way that people in Hollywood can’t understand or effect I think it’s fair to say that Hollywooders become cynical about the turn politics is taking. So when you go into some of their big mansions some of these people get bitter and they cling to their religion of the month and their bongs and there antipathy to average people who don’t share their lack of values and they reach for their copies of Das Kapital or the Communist Manifesto even though they’ve never ever actually read either. They look back to a time when everybody “knew” that all conservatives are raaaaacists and that just playing the race card would shut them up. Those times are never going to return but the racers and the bitter clingers will still believe in their SCOAMF.
After the first line, that transcript reads as though Morgan Freeman is talking to himself, Gollum-like.
And Mr. Freeman is now starring in a movie in which he gets to play two white guys, depriving them of their just due.
The fact is that every single vote for Obama was itself a racist vote. All of Obama’s supporters were flaming racists, and many of them were violent. 2008 was the most violent Presidential election since the Civil War, and every single act of violence came from and Obama supporter.
Not all. Never all. Some folks genuinely thought he’d be a good president because of his policies. Very few I admit but some did.
I suppose you both of them personally?
While Hollywood’s agenda may have failed, one thing is for certain: the media’s attempt to paint the Tea Party as racist was a resounding success, at least in terms of shaping the minds of the ignorant, like Mr. Freeman.
Funny that just a few years ago his advice to us was to “stop talking about racism” to make it go away. Now it seems he is obsessed with it to the point that he cannot even understand the interviewer’s point about republican efforts to thwart the re-election of Bill Clinton.
Re: Andrew X
Well said. And exactly right.
I’ve always liked Morgan Freeman too. But I have developed a built in system of discrimination. I realize that is a taboo word nowadays, but it’s true. It allows me to appreciate his acting, which I still do, while recognizing that his political views are of little value.
It’s always a bit disappointing to really like a public figure for the work that makes them well known and then find out that their personal viewpoints are weak or baseless. But as a conservative one gets used to dealing with that.
The video at the end of this piece does seem to show a Morgan Freeman that has been lost somewhere along his journey to the present.
Why would you be disppointed in the personal viewpoint of any actor/celebrity? At least, not more than anyone else you find that has shallow thinking, or hasn’t thought things through to a logical conclusion (my own problem, now corrected
I’ve come to the conclusion that most in La-La land are hollow people, filled only by fantasy and taking on someone else’s personae. While I may enjoy and appreciate their doing so *only* in an entertainment sense, I certainly don’t expect pearls of wisdom to tumble from the lips of people in this profession. It’s startling when that is the case, the exception to the rule (Gary Sinise comes immed. to mind).
Dr. Freeman is at it again. I know, I know he is not an MD. But he sure behaves like one with his God complex.
I guess some people like Freeman will likely go their graves still carrying their brains around in their skin….live by the melanin, die by the melanin
“President Obama has made racism worse in America,”
He has. The racism of Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan, Wright and Obama has become the policy of the Democrat Party, the content of academia, and the law of the United States. May God have mercy on Steven Pagones, Channon Gail Christian, Collin Finnerty, Mark MacPhail etc. etc. because the racist US never will.
Perhaps it was just a matter of time before the 1960′s-style race-anger showed up again. This is a curious phenomenon of humanity. What happened in a generation’s past as youngsters, will have to bear repeating in the future when they are in positions of leadership or when they start to die off. In the good sense, the WWII generation, was highly recognized not so long ago. Their children, now are revisiting the “accomplishments” of their youth and even perhaps longing for the days of protests, anger and activism where they really thought they made a difference.
But the two are very contrasting. The WWII generation made a difference by banding together against evil forces to defeat them and allow freedom to prosper. The hippies loosely banded together under a false assumption that “everything should be equal” and set about to whining about it incessantly, which is what made “All In The Family” so funny. And, as written, Archie was usually right.
Oddly, the WWII generation, as parents, gave birth to the most permissive, least-disciplined generation we have seen in the US. Sex drugs and rock & roll and “hey whatever, man”. In the 60′s drug use and sexually transmitted diseases went suborbital in numbers. And the kids rebelled against their WWII parents who fought to keep freedom alive. Their kids took those freedoms without any sense of responsibility.
And look what kind of government it has given us. Free from accountability, ridiculous accusations of racism, rather than substantive counter-arguments to poor policies and actions, and people who just don’t give a crap if they are seen breaking the law, not to mention the likes of Reid, Pelosi and others who blatantly lie, accuse and wag fingers at people, all based on the assumption that they are evil capitalists and deserve to be punished.
Our nation is not well. But perhaps we had to visit the hippie generation one more time before they pass on and we can get back to being free and having a government that makes sense.
morgan freeman has shown us he’s a racist at heart, and every bit as despicable a racist as barack obama has shown himself to be, each of them having made noble, eloquent, and moving speeches on race that we now see to have been pure bullshit all along.
I am a white man. The two people I love most in the world are female (my wife and daughter) and one (my daughter) is black. Or at least, she’s 3/4 black, 1/8 white and 1/8 Native American. More black than Obama, anyway and I suppose probably less black than Freeman. I can’t stand Obama, and gave up hope of ever being able to like him about the 2nd or 3rd time I heard him speak. I would vote for ANY of the current field in a head-to-head against the teleprompter in chief.
I LOVE Morgan Freeman’s acting work. I also like the earlier Morgan Freeman. Can’t stand the newer one. I’m not a “member” of the tea party, but I like most of their message. I’m not familiar with Nora Ephron, but I’ve been smeared by the type enough times to know I disdain her and view her as a non-entity. I’m also a bitter-clinging AGW-denier.
So. Have you ever heard of such a screwed up, knuckle-dragging, confused, mouth-breathing sexist, racist pig as me in all your life? I’m so ashamed. Not.
Haha! Oh no, if that’s the way you feel then now Hollywood is going to have to REALLY double down with those Attitude Correction Lessons. Maybe every movie coming out of Tinseltown from now on should include a full-length episode of The View. Don’t worry, we can write it into period pieces somehow. All DVDs will include lectures from Henry “Bullwhipped-by-Boston-Police” Gates that you have to interactively pass a quiz on before you can watch the movie. It’s for your own good.
I generally take such things as saying more about the speaker than what he is talking about. Sometimes it’s projection, sometimes it’s an inabilkity to understand someone else and assuming they must think as you do. More often than not, looking at it that way explains everything, or darn near.
From which I infer that Morgan Freemen, a rich and successful Hollywood actor of middling talent, is a racist and feels himself a victim.
Personally, I’m genuinely sick and tired of being told I’m a racist because I oppose the agenda of the [Social] Democrat president. Because…the “race card” has been tossed around so much lately, it’s high time that it be thrown in the dustbin of history. It had, fortunately, been used so much in the past 3 years, that it basically means nothing.
I don’t care about what ethnicity you are…I care about what your politics. If you want too spend money the country doesn’t have, on programs we don’t need, and desire to regulate small business to the point where profits can’t be made (and profit’s NOT a dirty word), then I have no use for you.
I’m sick and tired of being labelled a racist because I oppose Mr. Obama’s socialist agenda. I will always oppose that agenda, regarless of WHO presents it. That’s something the liberal left, and MSM/Hollywood just don’t understand about the Tea Party movement…we don’t care where your family/ancestors came from…we care about the policies you support. That’s it.

Freeman has always annoyed me, because his entire career seems to consist of being Hollywood’s designated Magic Negro.
That’s it. That’s his entire schtick. It’s the only role he can play. And he’s made a long and profitable career of it.
Morgan Freeman is right. I am a racist! I actually voted for Obama and my main reason was the fact that Obama was a Black man.
I thought it would be “cool” and that doing so would show the World how far we had come in race relations as a country. What a fantastic example we could be for all that is good and right.
I also thought doing so would surely improve race relations even more and we could finally realize in full the promise of the American melting pot.
How foolish I was! I voted based on what I believed and what I wanted to happen. I see clearly now that my dreams were not based in reality. I didn’t even consider Obama’s record, his lack of experience and accomplishments, or his nefarious associations. And that, all by itself, is pure racism!
The very same thoughts went through my mind when I first saw Obama and listened to one of his fine campaign speeches. “If we get him in,” I said to myself, “nobody will be able to accuse America again of being a racist country.” Then Obama’s connection to the ranting demon Wright was revealed and I turned my back on Obama. But there were all the idiocies of Bush to consider. And then I caught McCain on TV in a seemingly senior moment. He seemed lost for a second as if he didn’t know where he was, and I worried that he might not make it through the whole term. So I put on my blinders and shut out reality and voted for Obama and I’ll hate myself for it for the rest of my days. But Freeman is right about Obama having brought racism back to America. His own attitude proves it. The black racists have come out of the woodwork figuring that their time has come with brother Barry in the White House. I have to remind myself that I have a lot of very fine black friends, else I’d be looking for a KKK conscription office to sign up. Obama’s presence, partly by intent and partly by simply being who and where he is has set American race relations back fifty years.
IMO,
Morgan has been on a slow downhill deterioration. Much like Charlton. I think he truly laid out his feeling with Mike Wallace.
I suppose MF feels safe and secure in the fact that he’s made enough money in his lifetime…to never worry about insulting all non blacks that have paid to see his movies after all these years.
Easy Reader needs to read a few PJM articles before he starts shooting off his mouth. Ephron, writer of light comedies? Her political opinions are funnier than her scripts.
Just shows you the power of Hollywood to shape our perceptions of people. Before reading his words I would have assumed Freeman somewhat resembled the wise and just characters he plays. Now I realize he is just another black racist, with so little self-awareness that he can only assume that everyone else is as fatally flawed as he. Someone tell the fool that “irony” is a noun, not an adjective like “coppery” or “silvery” only rust-colored.
iSay, I rather like this man’s message. Whatever happened to him?/i
The interview with Mike Wallace and the interview with Piers Morgan, one of those two was an act. The question is, which one?
Sounds like Easy Reader isn’t much for book learning.
“If Freeman is right, then Hollywood has failed in the role that his fellow progressives set out for it.”
An odd concept, and, I’d say, 180 degrees dead wrong. Progressives ARE America’s racists. “Divide and conquer” has been their tactic for at least the past forty years, maybe much longer. Divide the electorate into distinct blocks, and bribe one at the expense of another with wild promises (make the rich “pay their fair share” in taxes, as a good current example). If the blocks are already defined, emphasize the division and convince one block that the Progressives are the only friends they have. Hence the fascination of the Progressive press with labels, and the PC attempts to put people into blocks with others, even if the fit isn’t too good. It’s very similar to the Marxist view, but not identical – the Marxists really believe that all human interactions are between groups or blocks, and one is always exploiting the other; the Progressives are more cynical, as I doubt they actually believe that. But they’re willing to exploit the concept as a voting tactic.
The 2008 election surprised me with the level of success the Progressives had achieved. They have been almost completely successful with one block, American blacks, who are overwhelming supporters of that half-white guy (you know, Dunham or Sotero or Obama – that guy) for no other reason than that he’s only half white. Pure racism in its most blatant form. So, it seems that constant fanning of the flames of racism has paid off. That means they’ll keep doing it as long as they can get away with it.
not “Sotero”
It’s not racism, it’s personal.
If this administration had turned the deficit around, if they had enacted policies that created employment and wealth, we wouldn’t be having this discussion, now would we.
Instead, all that was gotten from that little commie is “Spread the wealth” rhetoric which resulted in “Spreading of the Poverty”.
Spreading the wealth, destroys the wealth.
“They will just think that they either need to try ever harder in their activism, or that the target of their attempts (that would be, the unwashed you and me) are simply hopelessly irredeemable.”
That’s the essence of any religious or political ideology, kids. An ideologue’s belief is never wrong. In his own mind, either he’s not trying hard enough to show others that he’s right…or others are simply too stupid to se that he’s been right all along. This is always the reason for using political coersion and force to make others live and think the way he want them to live and think.
Living in freedom is all about learning how to leave other people the hell alone. Idealogues, however, are simply unable to do that.
He just doesn’t get it.
We’re judging Obama by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.
Just the way it was supposed to be.
He is a Marxist. That is why he must be defeated.
Why do we continue to pay attention to ill-educated masters of the art of dumb show? These are actors, not wise men.
Leo Bloom: Actors are not animals! They’re human beings!
Max Bialystock: They are? Have you ever eaten with one?
I am a white, conservative leaning libertarian who generally supports the Tea Party’s agenda and I had considered Obama’s race, as trivial a factor as it should be, to be a positive aspect of his presidency.
But I was naive, and sadly I’m afraid Mr. Freeman is correct, and it has actually made racism more of a problem in this country. Just not in the way he thinks, i.e., he needs to look in the mirror.
I find it hard to believe that Mr. Freeman knows, or much less has ever talked to, anyone who has been to a Tea Party event or considers themselves part of the Tea Party movement. His caricatures of us is juvenile and misinformed. It’s the kind of statement that someone who only watches CNN, MSNBC, and the like, or reads the NYT (and believes it unquestioningly) would make, not someone who takes the time to inform themselves from different outlets.
Until liberals abandon the knee-jerk calling of anyone who disagrees with them a racist, they will continue to misunderstand why they are losing at the polls and why conservatives so assertively oppose this president and his big government policies.
This is the situation that George Soros and the race baiters and race mongers have put this country in. The Democrat leftist elite & the great unwashed convinced the moderates that if a black man, or preferably a black woman, is elected president it was going to be the end of racism in America. Nobody considered his competency because he is a willing puppet, a salesman or “useful idiot” as Lenin would have termed him. He is there to enact the socialist policies that have been languishing in the desks of the far left radicals. WITH A HUGE MAJORITY IN BOTH HOUSES he rammed them through, put our country in economic peril, turned our soldiers into mercenaries and has seriously weakened the the worlds security. I always respected Morgan Freeman as an actor. I always thought of him as a rational human being and a follower of Dr King. But where Dr King preached content of character over color of skin, to the left (and Morgan Freeman) it is ALL about race. Barack must be right because he is black. George Soros and his slime ball cronies, like the Clintons, will hide behind him with hands up his keester telling him what to do like a ventriloquist with his……uh……dumm, no……puppet.
We should be happy that Morgan Freeman and his ilk so willingly display their idiocy. I love the 1st Amendment.
What in God’s name would make anyone think Obama had any intention of fighting racism?
When Nobel Prize winning poet Tony Morrison, who is African-American, can write an October 1988 New Yorker article titled “Clinton as the first black president”, then what is “black”? When the NAACP calls the black conservative Kenneth Gladney, “not black enough”, and “not a brother” then what is “black”? When Time magazine’s Jack White calls Supreme Court Justice Thomas, “the scariest of all the hobgoblins”, saying “Washington seems to be filled with white men who make black people uneasy”, than what is “black”? And when Obama, a man whose mother is Caucasian, can tell us in a widely read autobiography that in his youth he struggled with his racial identity before *deciding* to be black, what is “black”?
When Bill Maher, during a panel discussion on HBO complains that Obama’s policies are “half-assed” “because he’s only half black.” and that “if he was fully black, I’m telling you, he would be a better president.”, and that “there’s a white man in him holding him back”, than what is “black”?
“Black” in all these contexts, as well as Juan Williams’s complaint on Fox News that the extraordinarily lopsided expression of Missouri voter sentiment in August of 2010 rejecting ObamaCare was really about race, is clearly not about “race”. It is about ideology, socialist ideology.
With respect to BHO being black: it is not about the racial characteristics he was born with, it is about the ideology he adopted. It is not what percent black he is, it is about how thoroughly red he is.
Morgan Freeman supports Obama because of Obama’s skin color. There’s your racism.
I oppose Obama because he is wholly unqualified for the office he holds, and because his political beliefs are more in line with Karl Marx than James Madison.
Finally, as one of those ‘typical white persons’ our President referred to, I would be happy- thrilled- to vote for a black or asian or hispanic or female candidate for President- AS LONG AS THAT CANDIDATE SHARES MY POLITICAL BELIEFS.
Well said Jones.
I’m tired of being labeled as a racist villain becasue I didn’t vote for Obama and I don’t like what he’s doing in office.
And when he loses his bid for re-election, that will be my fault too.
What he would never grasp is that the vast majority of the “racist” commenters above would vote for Herman Cain over a Clinton, Dean, Biden, Kucinich, etc.
Well, Norman Cain just won the Florida straw poll in a romp.
Personally I blame the Tea Party.
Who does Mr. Freeman blame?
Don’t you mean “Herman Cain”?
Cain sure has a good makeup staff. He looks genuinely black.
Actually Herman Cain won the straw poll
Well,
NormanHerman Cain just won the Florida straw poll in a romp.First sentence fixed!
Thanks, yes of course I meant Herman Cain. There was a local appraiser I used to do business with by the name of Norman Caine so I engaged in a bit of Freudian slippage.
“That’s, that’s why all those people were in tears when Obama was elected president.”
He got that part right. Pretty much everyone with a functioning brain shed a tear or two when Obambi got elected.
Freeman is a great actor…but, man is he ever dense. Well, that’s par for the course in Hollywood.
Shame, because I remember when Morgan Freeman refused to be pigeon-holed as a “black”actor. He aspired then to be known as a “good” actor, which, when he wants to be, he undoubtedly is.
In the Ken Burns “American Civil War” television series, Freeman was given the role of voicing lines from speeches by Frederick Douglass. Freeman possesses a magnificent voice, which did justice to Douglass.
Surprise!
Those who have been playing the race card the longest are the racists!
What happened to our color blind society?
Why do we celebrate Martin Luther King day?
If Obama succeeded at any one thing in his pursuit of the presidency it was that he tore the scab off the wound of racism in America and exposed once and for all the anti-white racism of a majority of black americans.
As a white child of the 50′s who listened to Dr. Kings speech and heeded his words,I spent my life up until 2008 judging people based on the content of their character and not by the color of their skin, imagine my surprise in 2008 when it was revealed that 96% of black American voters judged a candidate for the presidency; not by the content of his character but by the color of his skin. Don’t dare call me a racist for opposing the failed Obama presidency, examine first the mote in thine own eye.
I never understood why people idolize these people or even care what they say. They are just doing a job like millions of others are doing. Why not idolize the soldier who puts their life on the line to protect us, or doctors who spend 8 – 12 grueling years educating themselves to save our lives – along with many other noble professions. Freeman is good at what he does, but I could care less what he says.
What he is “admitting” is that hollywood is really an actively subversive socialist group of individuals intent on the destruction of the American culture and way of life. Supplanting it with communism.
Most of us already knew that. But if you didn’t that is what he is saying.
Hollywood’s BLACK BIAS.
Lets face it HOLLYWOOD has been punting BLACK PRESIDENTS, black Bosses, Black Chief Detectives, Black brilliant Scientists, Black computer EXPERTS, Black as the most moral men, Black as the hero’s bestest truest most longest friend ever for decades now. In Hollywoodland what the Black NEVER is the CRIMINAL (or if he is he is ALWAYS misunderstood and INNOCENT of this particular crime or FORCED in to the crime by wicked whitey and his persecution) or the villain or the Terrorist. No those parts are reserved for Whitey and preferably South American or European whiteys. Now I am not saying some Blacks are not in the real world Chiefs of Police or Bosses or Scientists but in EVERY movie and TV show they ALWAYS are and that is NOT reality that is PROPAGANDA.
Morgan Freeman and other black actors such as Will Smith, James Earl Jones, all the way back to Sidney Poitier have done more to eliminate racism by just playing parts in movies and allowing everyone to see a black person as just a person rather than a black person. Now the blatant racism that some of them are exhibiting is ruining that. Thankfully I’ve learned enough, and if Morgan would come to a real T.E.A. party gathering and see what really goes on at one and what the people there are really like, perhaps he could get over his mistaken views and see that we have learned the truth, that blacks are mostly just people, just like whites are mostly just people who don’t care any more what color the skin of a person is but like Martin Luther King Jr. taught, we judge based on the content of the character not the skin color.
Come on out Morgan and meet us for real!
They find it absolutely impossible to question their own assumptions.
I’m disappointed in someone whose screen portrayals have been good.
Just read the transcript.
He’s bone stupid!
WTF do Hollywood violence porn stars got to say about national politics???
Self appointed spokesmen as authorities of racism are a dime a dozen. The Federally sponsored race industry has turned dark skin color into a cash asset. (Federally sponsored ignorance is in the pipeline.)
Most people knew race relations would get worse with an Obama in the White House, and we were proven right. Even the ones that voted for him knew in their hearts, and they went against their better judgement.
If it weren’t for Federally sponsored racism, they would have no identity.
It’s all they have; All they need; All they want; And it’s still not enough.
How pathetic.
They’ll never grow out of it.
I have often heard it said that we should divorce an entertainer, actor, author, script writer, or playwright’s personal politics from his “art,” from the books or plays he writes, his TV scripts, the songs he sings, or his acting. That we should not let, for instance, Vanessa Redgrave’s support for Marxism and the Palestinian cause turn us off her as an actress, or turn us off Tony Bennett’s singing because of things like his recent comment that we were responsible for 9/11.
But, when authors, playwrights, screen writers, actors or other entertainers don’t just stick to their “art,” but push themselves forward–on their arrogant assumption of their superior wisdom, perception, and intellect–to give us their “take” on things, to tell us what we should think, how we should vote, or how we should conduct our lives then, I believe, their personal politics and views have now become very relevant, and should be taken into account when we decide whether we want to read their books, see their plays, watch TV shows they have scripted, or one of their performances.
I used to watch much more TV and many more movies than I now do, but then I became aware of Marxist Antonio Gramsci’s plan for the subversion and conquest of bourgeois societies through the use of the media and propaganda, and particularly through the use of cultural icons, “thought leaders” and trend setters like academics, authors, playwrights, script writers, directors and, particularly, very often ill-educated and drug and alcohol addled “actors.”
There has been an increasing plague of such “artistes” mouthing off in the media, Hollywood types who have, through their arrogant and self-promoting pronouncements on how I ought to think and live, vote, and conduct my life, and their attempts to push their supposedly higher understanding, morality, and politics on me. Artistes trying to intimidate all of us dumb schmucks whose patronage supports their sybaritic lifestyle, their various divorces, drug and alcohol addictions, stints in rehab and periodic plastic surgeries into bowing down to their superior morality, intellects and understanding. Thus, my decision to increasingly turn them out.
The truth of the matter is that, by stepping out from behind the camera, or the typewriter, or the footlights, by not just crafting a play or TV script singing a song, or reading their lines, but by “getting in our faces.” to push their particular far Left views, these Hollywood types have quite clearly demonstrated just how much less admirable and much less educated and intelligent they are than the characters they create or play.
You make a very tempting argument but I disagree with it. I think it is entirely possible to admire someone’s performance without adopting their personal political views. I do it all the time.
For instance, a documentary I saw on Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) and background reading I did on him give me the very strong impression that his politics are far Left, which I abhor. But I think he’s a brilliant musician and have great fondness for many of his songs and his guitar playing. I continue to enjoy his music and simply dismiss his political views as irrelevant. By the same token, Einstein continues to be regarded as one of the most brilliant physicists ever. The fact that he was politically a socialist is irrelevant to me. As far as I’m concerned Einstein’s expertise was in physics just as Knopfler’s is in music. They have not done anything to convince me that their insight into politics approaches their skill with science or music.
The real problem here is that a very large number of people assume that if someone is very good at something, it means that they are very good at EVERYTHING. Therefore, if someone is a great scientist or a great musician, many people believe they are inevitably brilliant in every field and therefore their views on politics carry some special weight. It is my belief that brilliance in one area does NOT automatically carry over into other areas and should certainly not be assumed. There are occasionally people who are brilliant at practically everything but they are few and far between. I have no reason whatever to believe that Einstein, Knopfler or Morgan Freeman are brilliant in everything. So I simply dismiss their political views and enjoy what they do in their field of expertise.
My only regret with this approach is that you sometimes support unsavoury political activities by buying their recordings or films. It remains a matter of concern to me that buying Mark Knopfler album or a Morgan Freeman film may see some of the money that they make go to support causes I oppose. It’s an imperfect world so I have come to accept that the price of enjoying the art of a Knopfler or a Freeman sometimes means a small donation to unpalatable political organizations. Overall, I still feel like I’m coming out ahead.
Cries of racism are the last refuge of a welfarista scoundrel.
When talk shows began asking actors to be interviewed about their political views, the vapidity and emptiness that was displayed allowed the public to know once and for all that screen heroes are much less in intellect than those who write the lines they speak.
Freeman’s best role was “Easy Reader” on “The Electric Company”. Nobody knew how stupid he really was.
Doesn’t he have to get ready for the PRISM awards or another of the 4,000 awards ceremonies Hollywood holds for themselves? It’s amazing he has time to think out his positions.
What he and his allies fail to admit is that illegal immigration fills jobs that Blacks cannot or will not do, and I am not talking astrophysics here: Blacks, by their political actions have priced themselves out of the market. Anyone who has seen a protected minority of any type manipulate the system to avoid even the appearance of contribution to it will understand what I mean.
What he actually fears is not racism so much as an ending of political preference for mascots, in Sowell’s phrase. What we have from him is racism pure and simply: Blacks cannot be held to the same standards as others in the society.
If things were as bad as he whinges, there would be a bounty on him and his.
In his assessment that the tea party wants to get rid of Obama, “because he’s black” is the same, lame assessment he used to excoriate others for. He just announced, for the record, that all blacks, in his estimation, think alike by assuming we want rid of this national socialist on the basis of his race. They skirted around Clinton’s potential exile but then, his categorical (and typical) “black anger” came out when he said, “And they won’t get rid of Obama, either.”
Whenever a popular Hollywood type speaks politics, it is from the pallet of the “identity” kind since that’s what Hollywood spends 99.999% of its time on, in order to sell films, and which attracts a certain kind of person, which further increases their notions that they are right. The real world matters not. And, because of their high visibility, they assume to speak for all Americans.
I’ll say it again: I like to watch pro sports to see real athletic talent on display, and good movies to see acting talent on display. But when they take their profession and use it as an opportunity to flame America, well. I mean, how would they like it if every time they went to a restaurant, the waiter gave them a diatribe about what they do wrong as an actor, or that last pass they dropped in the end zone? How about if they got on an airliner and the captain came on the intercom and went on and on about politics in the US? Or even if they went through the drive-through at Bruger King and got same over the speaker?
No, these people take illegitimate privilege with their opinions. And, by doing so, they make problems worse. Morgan Freeman is also the guy who said, on Leno, “You wanna stop racism? Stop talking about it.” That seems to have gone by the wayside in his anger. And, he also assumes that Obama is a good president simply because he’s black. I had incorrectly assessed that Morgan Freeman would have been able to identify his national socialism in spite of his color, but it turns out that Mr Freeman is in the same mindset as the rest of the victim class and blinded by 60 years of racial politics.
Time to remove all the movies I have that have him in them and put them away for good. I wouldn’t have but now that he’s outed his racist political views, I can no longer tolerate him.
So sad (really !) that Morgan Freeman has adopted the ignorant Hollywood (and Hollow-wood) meme of racism and the tea party.
Heretofore, I had assumed he was intelligent enough to see through that crapola.
No longer.
Progressive? When I think of what progressive means I thinks of diseases. Like cancer, hepatitus C, Lou Gehrig’s disease. All of them are asymptomatic until it is too late much like political Progressivism.
Mr Freeman, I enjoy many of the characters you have played in the movies.
You….not so much.
When Morgan Freeman talks about racism it seems to be through the strnge prism of the progressive elite. The progressive elite does not read anything beyond what other progressive elites write. Progressive Elites seem to find nothing worng with tellling anyone how to think and to believe that the sheeple must be told what to do.
I encourage Morgan Freeman to read articles on Law written by Ellis Washington, I encoruage Morgan Freeman to contemplate freedom of choice (not on one subject but on all subjects. I encourage Morgan Freman to contemplate merit instead of quotas and reparations, individual rights instead of protected classes (Group Rights).
I believe Ed Driscoll has it correct – Morgan Freman would rather live in a world where he does not have to acknowlege that some people – Like Allen West, Herman Cain, Patrice Lewis and Clarence Thomas even exist.
Is Morgan Freman racist – from the sound of his words – if he lived in a world other than his progressive bubble – probabaly.
Maybe he should expand his reading – start with something light like David Mamets article in the Village Voice in 2008. Then read some actual history of the Progressive Movement that he now represents – might I suggest Liberal Fascism (that may be a little over the top for the truly ignorant).
If we look at this from Freman’s pont of view – He has been steeped in Progressive Rhetoric and repeating the Rhetoric Daily – unfortunately this is America and he has been free to choose his own path. This is not like Many Countries in the world where people will be jailed and murdered for reading the wrong material.
Can’t figure out how you can fault a white Democrat, but not a black one, and while both hold the same politics. Pelosi & Reid share their politics with Obama, is racism a factor in reaction to them? The charge of racism comes from all leftist quarters in lieu of valid arguments,or civility & decency.
BTW, as to Pelosi and Reid etc, that’s where leftists switch from the racist charge to accusing Normal People of hate. The left covers all the bases, with slime.
PIERS MORGAN: Is fat meat greasy?
MORGAN FREEMAN: “Made it worse”.
MORGAN: Is the Pope Catholic?
FREEMAN: “It is a racist thing.”
MORGAN: “Does it unnerve you that the Tea Party are gaining such traction?”
FREEMAN: Does a shark pee in the ocean?
MORGAN: Why?
FREEMAN: “Well, it just shows the weak, dark, underside of America.”
MORGAN: Do bears poop in the woods?
FREEMAN:” They did try, but still. I don’t, they’re not going to get rid of Obama either. I think they’re shooting themselves in the head.”
MORGAN: “They tried.”
FREEMAN:”That’s, that’s why all those people were in tears when Obama was elected president.”
MORGAN: Freeman; were you born in the cabin that you helped your father build?
FREEMAN: “Yes”
MORGAN: Were you potty-trained at gunpoint in the outhouse on the hill?
FREEMAN: “We’re supposed to be better than that.”
“There are those that do not wish the patient to get well”.
I wish Booker T. Washington was still around.
Why should I take seriously the opinions and remarks of someone who plays “dress-up” for a living and spouts the lines others have written for him?
If Hitler or Stalin came back as black men and one of them became president, Freeman would say the same thing: you might oppose these thugs because they are genocidal madmen, but that’s just code for “black” and you only really oppose them because they are black!
The liberals are the biggest racists out there: no matter how dictatorial or incompetent a black leader is, the only real reason you oppose him is because you are a racist. This is the society a liberal wants: a white president can be demonized as a Nazi, a chimpanzee, a redneck hick moron and a warmonger, and movies can be made depicting his assassination, that’s OK, that’s “the height of patriotism and what it means to be American”, but if you say you don’t agree with Obama’s health care reform and spending levels, you are a racist white supremicist!
That’s why virtually no one ever dares criticize a black leader in Africa, even though they are frequently profoundly corrupt or tyrannical or both.
Is Morgan Freeman the guy who had a 10+ year affair with his own step-granddaughter, whom he raised, and actually had intended to marry her? Just trying to get a baseline for the twisted and sick nature of the person who is offering his nuggets of wisdom.
And Barky has been trying to foment racial tension in this nation since way back in the 2008 canpaign. Heck, then minute the Indonesian Imbecile got into office he OFFICIALLY began race-baiting from the White House with that absolutely insane inauguration he had, where the bnediction speech wished “for a day when … white will embrace what’s right.”
I am just sick and tired of hearing these race-obssessed fools complain that their own incompetence and ineptitude is due to others’ “racism”. Sick and tired.
Affirmative action kills. And it breeds an attitude in its recipints that is beyond disgusting and detached from reality. … But, 2008 was America voting for Suicide By Indonesian (as everyone with more than two brain cells to rub together knew that the Indonesian Imbecile’s tenure was going to screw America over just as it has – this nation will be lucky to make it through his tenure, intact).
Is he?
YET! Conservatives still run to the movies and pay 30.00 for an evening out.
Baffles me. I stoped going to movies and supporting the commies long ago.
Stop feeding the shark. If it is a great movie, it will be on tv eventually.
I do not pay attention to Hollywood when a self-designated “spokesperson” says something I disagree with, and I won’t pay attention even when they say something I agree with.
I think Mr. Freeman is certainly entitled to his opinions, but I don’t give them any more credence than I would for any other actor, director, or media mogul.
Maybe this is why he feels the way he does:
Freeman among most underpaid in Hollywood. (actor Morgan Freeman is one of many African-American actors who are paid less than their White counterparts)
April 22, 1996 | Copyright Jet
Actor Morgan Freeman gave riveting performances in films such as Driving Miss Daisy, Unforgiven and Seven, yet, according to a recent survey conducted by Entertainment Weekly magazine, the veteran actor is sorely underpaid–in fact he is one of the most underpaid stars in Hollywood, says the survey!
Freeman’s recent salary and asking price per film is between $5-6 million when he should earn $11.4 million, according to the poll…
What a heinous racist shithole America truly is when a black actor could only get $5-6 million per film in 1996… I hear black movie stars are paid much more equitably in Africa … They make about zero…
Morton, Hollywood is not America. So we can only hope that the likes of Elizabeth Warren will still come to get back the unfair share of Hollywood’s “lottery of life” wealth anyway, since no one who has ever lived among people has “done it alone”. Then we’ll get hers too, right?
Ed, Hollywood is entertainment. Actors have the ability to recite lines, sometimes without being aware of what they are saying. Does this qualify them for having noteworthy opinions on national issues? (I am not necessarily referring to our president.)
It is humorous when they believe they possess superior intellect and wit: it is a tragedy, when we take opinions seriously.
As someone who has worked for many Hollywood types, I have found them to be the most shallow, uncomplicated, insincere, and self-conscious people, I have ever known.
Surely, the only people who consider these empty vessels to be noteworthy are other Hollywood types and the learning disabled among us.
Ooooooo….jealous. so jealous.
The patriotic Tea Party care deeply for the suffering of Blacks. Mr. Freeman, and all of you Hollywood elites, I implore you, use your influence to stop the genocide of blacks by the rebels in Libya.
We need another Martin Luther King. STOP THE GENOCIDE!
The Obama-supported rebels left in charge are now conducting a “large
scale cleaning in the areas under their control with the extermination
of all blacks in the capital”, according to The Independent.
Barbaric atrocities, kidnappings and ruthless genocide of blacks in Libya by US/France/NATO backed Al-Qaeda linked rebels has been going on for months. US/NATO who waged war for months for the Al-Qaeda linked rebels-who murder our troops in Iraq-are RESPONSIBLE for stopping the genocide.
US/NATO are also responsible for
rescuing the many terrified blacks kidnapped by the rebels, including the
kidnapped black children who have been horrendously abused by the
black-hater Muslim rebels.
Blacks must have human rights!
STOP THE GENOCIDE!
You have to realize that to the left wingers, Muslims are the uber-victims, even when they victimize others. In the leftist food chain of victimhood Muslims are on top. They can kill every black African man, woman and child in the most horrendous ways imaginable, and Obama, liberals, the UN and the media could care less. But if a black man expresses discomfort around Muslims, like the one who worked for NPR, he is fired and told to see a psychiatrist.
Hollywood has been “behind the curve” for some time now and continues to fall progressively further and further back, apparently by means of some kind of intentionally degenerate death wish. But, hey, isn’t that what Progressivism itself is all about?
what’s this guy’s name, Mitch O’Connell. Is that his, O’Connell?
mr friedman, or, isn’t it friedman? oh, yeah, uh, what would happen if all of the subscribers of the tea party forgot your name and didn’t go to see or even rent another movie that you have made. i take a pledge to immediately boycott your products. we can do without insulting racists like you! why is it that many of these so called actors only have bravado after they’ve made enough money to make them feel invincible? i urge any of you that feel insulted by his public comments to keep your money out of this mans pocket…that especially includes the new dolphin movie in which freeman is cast for a part that was about a white man. how ironic is that? make it FAIL…time to deprive hollywood of our hard earned cash. take the pledge! i know i’m not the only one!!!
Yeah, in the Morgan Freeman movie I happened to catch parts of last night, “Baby Gone” or something, Morgan actually kidnapped a little white girl! For her own good. But now it’s beginning to look like the Detective who made the difficult descision back then to return the girl to her mother and send Morgan to jail made the right call! I sure hope he’s been following Morgan’s, er, evolution.
To get the Progressive view of “Blacks” all you have do is look at the Demokkkrat run inner city ghettos. Apparently the Dems have convinced themselves that everyone else will be similarly fooled by their attempt to camouflage these areas as “critical habitat” for “Africans”, under the Endangered Species Act.
Wow, Carl Bernstein sure did a number on Ephron, didn’t he.
Hey, Morgan, you still shagging your granddaughter??
It’s a rule with notable exception, but still a rule of thumb: the more talented the actor, the stupider the actor (this is particularly true of actresses many of whom are dumber than dirt). It’s as though intellect gets in the way of instinct, so the less intellect, the better.
I’ll second your last paragraph. It would be nice, though, if people like Morgan Freeman, who reads his lines very well on the Discovery channel when it comes to wormholes, would read something besides the LSM. Somebody should introduce him to PJM.
Why, why, why? I wish they would shut up about politics. It always totally ruins my movie experiences. I can’t watch Matt Damon or Sean Penn movies. And now Morgan Freeman. Sigh!
If Morgan wants to save the world let him put his money where his mouth is….most of the rest of us have tried of the massive waste liberalism has institutionalized wherever the voters allow. Perhaps he didn’t notice very Democrat state is in economic ruin?
Progressive today is synonymous with incompetence….Morgan can now claim to be the poster boy for the incompetent.
I’ll never watch another movie with Morgan in it, or his bizarre show again.
Mr. Freeman is merely trying to get other black people in his corner wrt his shameful, perverted behavior toward his granddaughter and his betrayal of the trust extended to him by his first and second wives.
Art and theatre has existed since the beginning of civilization. And most early works centered around political and social topics. Hollywood didn’t rise out of the black swamps filled with a brand new form of politically and socially active mutants. The purpose of a democratic society is to have citizens involved and share their opinions. I don’t think some of you…people…realize you are suggesting Americans who do certain jobs should not be allowed to speak about their government. Are you serious? Also, white men see themselves as the “regular, normal and everyone” group. As though, if there isn’t sufficient reason to vote for a woman or minority man…vote goes to the default…white man. No. That is why you all seem to go must when sexism and racism is brought up. Because you honestly think we “other” types should be happy with what we get given and shut up.
Attn., somali:
Morgan Freeman, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, etc., are in fact “speaking about their government”, as are you. Obama got elected. Herman Cain just won the Florida Republican Party-regular canvas vote. Thomas Sowell is perhaps the best and most prolific Economic writer/analyst we have in America, and have you ever heard of Sarah Palin?
somali, you are living in a Fantasy World. So it’s your own mind you should worry about instead. Only you can do something about the problem you are having in relating to reality.
“Why don’t you check out your mind, ‘been with you all the time….” -Curtis Mayfield
Despite the fact that many “artistes” have little or no formal education—not even high school some of them—I’m talkin’ to you Barbara Streisand–or college, and almost never have advanced degrees or training in foreign affairs or national defense, or in government, economics, or history, and despite the fact that many of them are, shall we say, often “under the influence” of alcohol and/or a shopping cart full of “controlled substances” –many of these “artistes,” who may or may no be good at their craft, just assume that, by virtue of the fact that they are “artistes”—by virtue of the fact that they may be good at writing a play, movie or TV script, telling a joke, dancing, playing an instrument, singing a song, or acting a part—that they are obviously much more intelligent than we are, that their “talent” somehow magically confers some special, superior insight and wisdom on them about all things in general, that they automatically have a deeper, more informed, correct, sensitive, and profound vision of the world and all its problems—and the solutions to those problems—that is superior to that of their patrons, who are the ones who are making possible and maintaining them in the luxurious lifestyles they enjoy.
Along with this first problem comes the next, that such self-promoting, exhibitionistic “artists” with gigantic egos just can’t resist the temptation to hector what they apparently consider to be the stupid, uneducated, ignorant, prejudiced, and generally benighted people who are their patrons—cue the picture of toothless hillbillies sitting on a rickety front porch sipping “shine” from glass mayonnaise jars, with “Dueling Banjoes” playing in the background—the duty to shame and bully them into what these “artistes” view as obviously the right way to view the world, and the right way think, vote, and to live their “little” lives.
“Artistes” can express any opinions they want, but when such “artistes” use the platform and megaphone that their celebrity gives them to try to influence all us “little people” to see the world as they do, and to live our lives as they want us to, why, then, we are very legitimately entitled to analyze and to disagree with both the appropriateness of them doing so, and with the quality, content, truth, and utility of such artiste’s ideas.
Actually no.
It’s just that we’ll tune them out and they should not expect us to listen to them
Morgan, you are one of my favorite actors. But you are stepping off the cliff into the Valley of Sean Penn. You are a man above this. Few in the black community have shown the courage to speak the truth. MLK, Bill Cosby, and most recently, Philadelphia Mayor Nutter come to mind. Your choice to stir up the race pool at the programming behest of CNN comes at a great price: the continuous vacuum of black leadership – and the disappointment that another African American voice with such appeal and credibility could be sold so cheaply. To follow the “Progressive” political line is a betrayal to your people. You are one of the few Hollywood actors who could dare speak the truth and still work in your industry. What are the consequences? You may not attend as many parties. You may not be nominated for any more Academy Awards or unearned Nobel Peace Prizes, but your message would reverberate through a liberal political machine proven for decades to be debilitating. What is the truth? It’s a message for everyone, not just blacks. It goes something like this: “get responsible for your actions, stop blaming others for your situation, become independent thinkers, take care of your families, reject the entitlement system that keeps you in chains, and vote for a candidate who is willing to empower.” Dare to take that position, sir, and you would become a voice for REAL hope and change.
Somali, that is all rather absurd -
Firstly, no one, not one single solitary human (find me one) has proposed that “Americans who do certain jobs should not be allowed to speak”….
What we are doing is putting the lie to a rather subtle but reprehensible idea that “responding negatively to my ideas is inherently hostile, and thus you should be precluded from doing so” etc. This is what the entire “hostile environment” crap and (one-sided) “calls for civility” are about.
What you do see is some resentment that when Morgan Freeman or George Clooney speak out, it makes headlines, when Tom J Smedley of Peoria, IL speaks out, who gives a rat’s ass. Thing is Freeman, Clooney et al know that is true, and they use their inherent megaphone advantage to push a decidedly ideological agenda upon all of us.
Which they can do. They have that right. NO ONE is saying otherwise. But we are damn sure saying that it will not go unanswered, that the inherently insulting tone that such people all too often take with us can surely be returned, and that we all agree that “with power comes responsibility”, and when power is used irresponsibly, and accusing advocates of smaller government of being racist just because you cannot attack them on their stated ideas is loathsomely irresponsible, then we are damn sure going to call them on it.
As for your ridiculous ideas about “white men”, I shall not bother to deconstruct them, as they are not worth my time. Suffice to point out that 95% of black voters voting for any candidate who is in fact black, tell us that “if there isn’t sufficient reason to vote for a white person… vote goes to the default… (my tribe, group, culture, gender). Anyone who refuses to acknowledge that non-whites are every bit as capable of racism as whites, women are every bit as capable of sexism as men, gay people are every bit as capable of group-hate (as against say, Christians) as straight people, and that non-Westerners are as capable of national or tribal race triumphalism as any Westerner is someone who is simply not worth discussing much of anything with. And that someone is, arguably, a flat-out racist (or sexist), being one for the same satisfaction to the soul that any Klansman might find in his ideals.
(And if I may be so bold, if ‘somali’ refers to your heritage, may I just mention a conversation I had recently with a colleague from central Africa about the regard in which Somalis and Ethiopians consider their fellow Africans from the South, and, suffice to say, it ain’t pretty. A related fault line to this genetic divide was seen between Hutu’s and Tutsi’s in Rwanda, and gosh, that went well. So kindly spare us the racial lectures.)
I have always loved Morgan Freeman as an actor. His movies have all been great, even if he is a typical hollywood leftie airhead. I will continue to see his movies, and ignore his other comments.
What makes Obama a Black president? Don’t his white mother and the white grandparents who raised him count? It is as if the one drop of blood rule once considered the most racist part of the Jim Crow laws has become acceptable if it is to the political benefit of Obama.
