No Thanks, I'd Rather Change the Guard

As Anne Beatts, a writer on the first iteration of Saturday Night Live once quipped, “you can only be avant-garde for so long, before you become garde.”

Less than two years into his first experience as an executive, our radical young president has just arrived at that moment. “Obama urges blacks to vote and ‘guard the change,'” Reuters reports:

President Barack Obama, seeking to fire up an important part of his support base ahead of November’s elections, told black leaders on Saturday he wanted their support to “guard the change” he was delivering.

Well, there’s one slogan for the election:

Guard the Change? No thanks,

I’d rather Change the Guard

Speaking of which, the Democrats’ new logo, as one blog recently noted, seems to symbolically place the ‘D’ for Democrats inside of an ‘O’ for Obama, symbolizing the party being subsumed by a true cult of personality. Of course, the problem with any sort of minimalistic logo is that it’s open to interpretations you hadn’t intended. But then, since so many of the Democrats’ ideas over the last 80 have been thwarted by the law of unintended consequences, why shouldn’t their new logo, as well?

In any case, here’s a great response to it, found via Maggie’s Farm:

Cult of personality? Actually, as CBS notes, in a rare moment of clarity, it’s more of a hostage crisis these days.
