When Did John Edwards Become President of Vietnam?

Somehow, the world hasn’t yet come to grips with the fact that there are still two Vietnams, each with very different hopes and desires. Just ask Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX):

As Moe Lane writes, “Words escape me:”

For the benefit of any natural born damned fools that may have wandered in: there is no South Vietnam anymore. It was conquered by North Vietnam in 1975, shortly after a Democratic Congress – yes, the same political party as Rep. Jackson-Lee’s – defunded the defense of South Vietnam, in defiance of our promises made to that unhappy country as part of the cease-fire that ended the Vietnam War. They are not living together side by side as two countries. Because, well, again, the North Vietnamese conquered the South. If Rep. Jackson-Lee likes, she could go ask Rep. Joseph Cao (R, LA-02) for the details of that event… assuming, of course, if she can make herself believe that an Asian-American can speak real English just as good as a Democrat can.Second, and let us dispose of this right now: she’s not talking about North and South Korea. We know this for three reasons:

  • First off, she was quoting a casualty rate of 58K, which is consistent with Vietnam War American casualties but not Korean War ones;
  • Second, North and South Korea are not anywhere near the point of having normalized relations. Even by North Korean propaganda standards, which are only compatible by normal reality’s standards by the blindest accident;
  • Third: Rep. Jackson-Lee is a liberal Democratic politician, and they really are that pig-ignorant of American history.

In short: to quote a physicist friend of mine, that’s not even wrong. But it is rather offensively ignorant, racist, and even racially ignorant.

If Joseph Cao isn’t available, Sheila might want to tune in to a recent edition of PJM Political, when I interviewed Phillip Jennings, the author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Vietnam, to bring herself up to speed with what happened in that corner of Southeast Asia.

But wait, there’s more! Allahpundit notes at Hot Air that “If you think this clip’s depressing, brace yourself: It’s not even the dumbest thing she said today.” For that, we go to Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit:

Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) told the NAACP this week that those who wore sheets lifted them off and are now wearing tea party clothing.
The progressive website ** This was met with great applause from the leftist crowd. **
Show Me Progress reported on her speech:

And I thank you professor very much. I’m going to be engaging you with those very powerful numbers that you have offered on what the tea party recognizes, uh, or is recognized as. Might I add my own P.S.? All those who wore sheets a long time ago have now lifted them off and started wearing [applause], uh, clothing, uh, with a name, say, I am part of the tea party. Don’t you be fooled. [voices: “That’s right.”, applause] Those who used to wear sheets are now being able to walk down the aisle and speak as a patriot because you will not speak loudly about the lack of integrity of this movement. Don’t let anybody tell you that those who spit on us as we were walking to vote on a health care bill for all of America or those who said Congresswoman Jackson-Lee’s braids were too tight in her hair had anything to do with justice and equality and empowerment of the American people. Don’t let them fool you on that [applause]….

As Jim notes, “Umm… Sheila. The KKK is a Democratic group:”
