Robe,

It looks like a nice book you're promoting, and while I like a lot of Springsteen's earlier, funnier works, I don't find much of a sense of tolerance in his later lyrics, or a sense that "all are welcome." These days, he only seems to tour when there's a new Democratic presidential to promote. He's basically morphed into a slightly more benign version of Pete Seeger, with a kick-ass back-up band behind him.

Darkness on The Edge of Town was/is a great album. The author of the Slate piece makes some interesting and valid points. One I do not agree with is that as a fan of Bruce Springsteen it is all or nothing. I consider myself a devoted fan, but there are many pieces of his work that I do not appreciate, his last album being one of them. To say that it is either black or white with Mr. Springsteen is just not true. There is a sense of tolerance with his work, and perhaps even his politics, agree or disagree, all are welcome.
