While I am not necessarily convinced the award of Nobel Peace Prize should be awarded on potential rather than documented action, I caution against chastising the recipient for not meeting one's expectations for the award, criticism should remain solely with the awarders.

While I found the overall thesis a little hard to follow at times, some of the ideas I find quite intriguing and perhaps enlightening! In regards to the gasoline tax and subsequent payroll deduction; to Koblog, who posted above, you may be misunderstanding the implications of such an tax (or perhaps I am). There will always be the rich with their overconsumption, but it is the masses who make up the majority of our appetite. I applaud any tax that forces us as a whole to understand the true "lifecycle costs" of our actions while potentially minimally affecting our individual bottom lines.

And, for what its worth (to the author and subsequent posters), I have always found alarmist and apocalyptic rhetoric severely dilutes otherwise intelligent arguments.

As I've said before here on PJM, 0bama and his repressive-regressive-depressive-obsessive-progressives want to champion the unraveling of the US as we know it and bring us to the level of a third world sh*t hole as worldwide reparations and redistributing of property, wealth, health, humanity.

As the human genome project couples with cloning, abortion, stem cell research, biological weaponry, robotics and 'manifesto' destiny, the 5th [unwritten] horseman of the Apocalypse has arrived just in time.

What is 'normal' anymore?

I sincerely don't know.

Rendezvous with scarcity indeed. I just paid $300 to a man for enough firewood to get us through the winter (maybe), and he was pathetically grateful, because he'd lost his job. I do not like this new, progressive America.

Mr. Driscoll, you make an excellent point. Frank J at IMAO <a href="http://www.imao.us/index.php/2009/10/obama-wins-the-nobel-peace-prize-by-listening-to-me/" rel="nofollow">revealed</a> that he laid out the strategy several years ago that was used by President Obama to obtain the Nobel Peace Prize.

<i>"We have it in our power to institute a serious gasoline tax (refunded immediately through a payroll tax reduction) to curb consumption and induce conservation."</i>

So this "conservation" is to be thrust upon the little people while the elites fly aboard taxpayer-supplied luxury aircraft and enjoy fleets of taxpayer-supplied high-powered, bullet proof limousines with personal drivers?

I am really getting tired of this crap.

Is there anyone more erudite than Krauthammer? I don't always agree with him, and he is sometimes proven wrong, but the thoughts are expressed so cogently. He offers tremendous insight. Not nuance; deep insight.

His writings are conceptually dense. His turns of phrase are powerful. Benign hegemon? Not just of will, but wallet? Gauzy internationalism of the New Liberalism? Magically self-enforcing norms? He puts defining labels to the concepts. Poetry!
