American citizens are not a bunch of Forrest Gumps or too lazy to pay attention while their country and freedoms are being compromised. Turn the tables on your leaders. Tell them to knock it off, kill it, regroup, re-evaluate... or you will leave the party and will take many others with you. You have a lot more power than you think, especially in the Senate. The citizens will support you and rally behind you unlike any other time in history. Jumpin' Jim Jeffords never had it so good. He was looked upon as a traitor. You'll be looked upon as Patriots. So synchopatic agreement that all these protests over spending or health care are just a ruse created by Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and the neocons is taken as a given, because -- like Pauline Kael and her McGovern voters in 1972 -- everyone whose opinion they care about loves Obama. They can't believe America really doesn't want another heapin' helpin' of Obama because they still think the average voter (or grade schooler) is still as enthralled with the president as the White House staff and the talking heads are. And unlike Bill Clinton -- who had his 1980 gubernatorial loss to serve as a warning, the Obama people have yet to be punished for their hubris, so it may be a while before anyone starts seriously considering the Dick Morris triangulation strategy (as opposed to just saying you're going to do the Dick Morris triangulation strategy and hoping the public's stupid enough to fall for it).
