Desperate editors :)

Yes, and the concept generalizes;
How many of TPTB are thinking,
and acting, on this assumption:
This is my Last Hurrah.

While I have no doubt that journalists would produce much more objective material if it were demanded by their editors, I also do not doubt that the great majority of them are very happy that such a demand is not placed upon them.

Are we supposed to believe schools of journalism are producing legions of reporters eager simply to find and report good stories only to be thwarted by editors who demand they serve preferred agendas against their will? And even assuming such were the case, should we then excuse them as somehow less blameworthy rather than despising them as amoral hacks? No
credit accrues to reporters who pervert their craft because of editorial pressure.

But, in fact, I would bet that every generation of reporters for the last 40 years has been even more eager to push a personal political/cultural agenda in their reportage than the editors who guided them. And then they became editors themselves.
