I’m a gringo raised around Mexicans, and nothing is wasted here, that’s for sure. Snouts, ears, tails, feet- I eat it all with gusto. Way things are going, when folks start getting hungry, they ain’t so proud. Mexicans KNOW what it means to go hungry, how about fat white folks? So, if you have a problem with their beloved choices of meat, well, people vote with their money, and eat what they want. If you don’t like Sotomayor, well, man up and quit picking on her diet.

Sotomayor should really “run” with this pig feet-thing. If she’s looking for common ground with non-Hispanic ethnics, many Polish-Americans love pigs’ feet (“zimne nóżki” /”nóżki w galarecie”). I wouldn’t touch them, but my Tata and Buscia were addicted to the dish.

At times, I think, for O’Brien and others like her, that the world is best appreciated as something of a zoo or natural history museum. While living in their preferred enclaves, they enjoy venturing forth to observe the various cultural exhibits – a part from but never part of – a kind of cultural voyeurism, if you like. Versailles and court of Louis XIV always come to mind when I think of this.

This speaks to the fact that both are New Yorkers more than anything else. It’s been my experience that most New Yorkers can’t conceive that there’s anything south of Philidelphia or west of Buffalo. I’m sure both would be shocked to find out that White Southerners have been eating pig’s feet for generations (although probably not as much as they used to). Makes me wonder if I want some one that ignorant of the rest of the country sitting in the highest court in the land, or reporting the news for that matter.

So, if Alito or Roberts claimed a shared southern identity by saying they like to go to Clarence Thomas house because they like the fried chicken, watermelon, and black-eyed peas (makin me hungry now, 3 of my favorites), would the liberal, biased press find something “racist” in it, or would they be their tolerant progressives selves and count it as a sign of southern brotherhood?

What do you think? I don’t think there is any question that the howling and clawing and screeching would begin. Progressive liberal media, thy name is forked-tongued, 2 faced, lying hypocrite!

Pickled pig’s feet is a common bar snack in the South and I understand in Ireland as well. It’s not any more Hispanic than cracklings and pork rinds. It’s poor people food. All that so-called soul food, the same thing. It’s what I grew up eating. It would never occur to me to claim a racial possession of this food.
