Glad you picked up on Shannon Love’s posting. I was very impressed with its insights in the mental processes of the left.

I’ve been battling wishful thinking about energy from the Left for decades. It has been VERY frustrating – point out a few facts about the way the world REALLY works (BTUs, efficiency, coercive conservation, etc) and one is suddenly an evil doer with nasty ulterior motives.

Indeed, the Left doesn’t have a well developed theory of much of anything.

Leftism is, almost by definition, a trendy designer bag with which you carry around the latest faddish ideas.

Ron Williams, the left-leaning commentator, even said recently that he gets a much better hearing on his ideas from the Right than he does from the Left these days. His friends on the Left want him to buy the whole Obama package, concur with the new Socialist Systems Approach, get with the program, start marching in step. When he says something about not concurring with some particular aspect he gets the cold shoulder.

I think the quote, “They can’t actually explain why the real world political process will systematically make better decisions than the free-market” misses the leftist point (speaking as a former leftist). It revolves around what you understand the word “better” to mean. By “better”, they usually mean “more fair”. By “more fair”, they mean whatever screws the rich to benefit the poor in the short term (and/or anything that makes Republicans mad). By “the rich”, they mean evil corporations, rich bankers, and other people with jobs (non-union jobs).
