Outlets like Newsweek realize that they can’t just shill for Obama all the time.

So they look to Krugman to provide some criticism (“loyal opposition”) while refusing to engage or even acknowledge the sharper criticisms from the right.

I once spent an hour with Evan Thomas, grandson or something of Norman Thomas, the head of the Socialist Party who predicted “America will go socialist without the word ever being officially acknowledged…” or some such hooey.

Evan is a nice shallow dude who is helping his publication into an early tomb.
