BREAKING: Russia Takes Ukrainian Military Base, Gives It Back

March 7th, 2014 - 4:35 pm

Earlier today, the AP and Reuters reported that Russian forces rammed the gates of the Ukrainian military base near Sebastopol, which they have been holding under siege:

The two sides were reportedly in the middle of negotiating the Ukraninian soldiers’ terms of surrender, when the pro-Russian Crimean militia started assaulting the journalists who were reporting from the area.

According to early reports, members of a pro-Russia militia used a truck to break though the gate of the base. The truck got stuck at the gate, and Russia soldiers climbed over it. Some 70 Ukrainian troops were said to still be holding out in the bunkers. Russians troops who broke through the perimeter demanded the Ukrainian soldiers surrender.

Dangerous escalation, leading inexorably to a military showdown? It appears Putin is simply outsmarting Western intelligence — and certainly Western leadership — with the gambit, causing a global ruckus and perhaps eliciting further concessions. Because moments ago, Russia pulled away:

Putin, rather elegantly, is keeping the chattering Western diplomatic corps on its heels. He understands the American administration and the fractured, economically hamstrung European Union well enough to know he has a hell of a lot of rope to play with before comparable arms show up.

Even then, he knows the opposition will remain fractured as long as he doesn’t take a step drastic enough to offend Western sensibilities. And remember, chemical weapons can no longer can be considered outside of those sensibilities, thanks to last year’s Western humiliation in Syria.

The West lacks the moral coherency of the Reagan/Thatcher/Pope John Paul/Lech Walesa era of Western leadership. Such coherency is the only thing that could ever prevent Putin, or anyone like him, from batting around the free world and it’s penumbra like a chew toy.

Russia is sending itself to hell. It won't take real long for it to get there.

Of course there are some right-wing Ukrainian speakers opposing Russian domination of the Ukraine. That's because almost all Ukrainian speakers are opposing Russian domination of the Ukraine. In the meantime, no Russian who hasn't gotten their--as the Stones song puts it, fair share of abuse--opposing Putin can complain about anyone else's fascism.

If Russia rejects the West's classical liberalism- it deserves into oblivion into which it will fade.

When I see the US behind Nuland orchestrating $6B through NGOs and agent provocateurs in support of fascist groups in the Ukraine (like Svoboda and Right Sector) pushing a coup right after the EU and the elected president come to an agreement, then THE HELL WITH THE WEST.

Up to the 1990's I was an anti-communist cold warrior, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union I then saw the true nature of the West that promised not to expand NATO into Eastern Europe but then did just that. I saw the West aiding and abetting the Croatian fascists and Islamic jihadis in the Balkans against the Serbs, the Chechens against the Russians, a 'color revolution' against the government of Armenia, the sack of Libya, the push to put the Muslim Brotherhood in charge of Egypt, the support for the jihadis that are raping and killing Christians in Syria and also Muslims that say No to the seventh century.

The West is a monster. It is the very evil that it sees everywhere except in itself. The left and right in the West can all go to hell. Go there, and leave the rest of the world alone.

Developments in the Gulf and Ukraine suggest that the alliances an upcoming conflict have hardened. On one side are the Qatari-backed Muslim Brotherhood, and their offshoot militia al Qaeda. Their historical ties to the Nazi Party of Germany are undeniable, and are only made most obvious in a cursory examination of the life and actions of the evil Haj Amin al Husseini, who was just about as inept and a backer of the losing side to be enough of a political disaster as can possibly be imagined.

Its time to pull out the ultimate Obama-style weapon. Inform the Russians that they are to leave the Ukraine immediately or they won't be invited to Mr. Obama's birthday party.

Its drastic, I know, but it should do the trick.

The moral coherency of the Reagan/Thatcher/Pope John Paul/Lech Walesa era was killed in Kosovo and buried in Libya.
Now we have only moral posturing.

Doesn't seem like much of a military operation. One truck rammed the gate but got stuck so the clowns had to clamber out.

Doesn't matter. What matters is they did it and there were no consequences.

Playing with a ball of yarn.

The One World Socialists want to pitch global warming and Big Gulp nannyisms.

China, Iran and Russia want to play mixed martial arts with The Pajama Boys.

There is a cognitive disconnect between the Pajama Party formerly known as Democrats and their idolized, lionized, "reset" partners. It is not mere dissonance. They simply don't understand the tune, but they are going to keep paying the piper.

In the South China Sea, in Georgia, Crimea and Syria.

And domino, oh domino...here we go.

The small c communists can get their Pajama Party act to play in Wishy Washy Western Society. But all their masks they wear to hide their One World Socialism were invented by their large c idols.

So, the masters just chuckle and sneer at the clumsy and amateurish pupils. Much tougher audience when they know all the tricks in advance. Runaway leftism has collapsed Europe.

The Obama/Soros/Ayers cabal has buckled America's knees. No policeman to stop the axis of evil and a complete radical leftist/radical Islam infiltration into every nook and cranny of our government, security, military apparatus.

Not a pleasant scenario to contemplate. We are in a pincer maneuver and there are traitors on all four sides.

Ugly. Putin isn't our biggest problem. Treason is.

Please provide a link to the stories of the facists pushing the "coup."

The stories I have seen either come directly from Putin's propaganda (falsely claiming fascist gangs are attacking Russian-speaking Ukrainians), or show actual Russians dressed in fascists shirts holding fascist-promoting placards

As we say in the West, Put UP or Shut Up. The true fascist is Putin.

The real fascism involves police (Berkut) sniping protestors in Maidan, or sending military forces into another country without military unit and national insignia and names on uniforms, wearing face masks and firing warning shots at unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.

Why do you leave out the multiple treaties Russia has signed that respect Ukraine's territorial integrity? Those who seek law and order 1st have to respect the current law.

Are you proud of the long history of the Russian Orthodox Church collaborating with the KGB to turn in dissidents during the Soviet years?

Why on earth should the majority Ukrainian areas suffer any more than the three majority Russian eastern provinces to be annexed by Russia?

1- Suffering is not a calculation in grand national strategic considerations.

2- Huge number of "Russian speaking" residents of eastern "Ukraine" areas descend from non-Russian-speaking peoples who were murdered by Stalin and successors. They learned to speak Russian to survive, not because they are ethnic Russian.

3- You are not responding to the idea I advanced regarding USA grand national strategic goal. Your choice.
