Is anyone thinking of this down syndrome child. I know as an uncle of a down child that it takes a 100% commitment to raise a child with those challenges. THERE DEFINATELY IS NOT TIME TO BE A VP AT THE SAME TIME!

Let me assure you as the youngest of five children with an older brother who has Down’s syndrome, your statement is utterly ridiculous. My brother Ralph was disciplined, loved and cared for in the same manner as his siblings. He attended public school via the special education program and then went on to work for a local hospital for 25 years. At the time of his birth, my parents were told to “put him in an institution” as he would be a “stigma” on my father’s burgeoning career in the medical field as a general and vascular surgeon. Just 28 years-old at the time of his birth, my mom and dad told that doctor to take a hike, before having my brother tested and then proceeding to push him to reach his full potential. Oh – and they went on to have three more children.

Ralph has been nothing but a blessing in our family. And while there are all kinds of degrees of mental retardation, baby Trig appears to be similar to my brother in terms of the severity of his condition — which means he will grow into a loving, productive and happy human being.

My father didn’t give up his medical practice in light of my brother’s condition and my mother actively worked in his office, while also involving herself (much like Sarah) in the Home and School Association and local politics. Neither my family nor the Palin’s needed a village to accomplish the feat of bringing a Down’s syndrome child into adulthood — close family ties and faith in God served that purpose well.

I cannot tell you how sick to death I am of innocent baby Trig being used as a metaphorical club against his mother’s decision to run for the Vice-Presidency. Did it ever occure to anyone that Sarah might have discussed this “small” matter at length with her husband before making the decision? I for one, am thrilled to have her on the ticket. And the fact that the unhinged Left is hurling mud is just further proof of their knowingness that McCain-Palin has a real shot at winning in November.
