Hollow point ammo does not necessarily expand. American snipers use hollow points also because the aerodynamics are better making them more accurate – they are not designed to expand.

With a high-powered .30 cal rifle, solid jacketed ammo can often cause worse wounds than expanding hunting rounds. The solid rounds often tumble or yaw causing massive wounds. Hunters use lead bullets because they are more stable and don’t destroy a massive piece of flesh.
