Ahmadinejad: ‘A Mideast Without Israel and America Now Possible’
Az Airborne says “We need to put a few well placed cruise missiles into a meeting of the Mullahs. Then arm the population to the hilt and let them revolt and take back their own country.”
I say that policy failed in South Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, and we’re currently dead broke from rehashing the same failed strategy over and over again. Oh, and are you *really* worried that Iran is going to come to Arizona? Are you afraid of monsters in your closet too?!
suibne says “there are no moderate muslims, only stupid ones who do not know the implication of their own religion”
I say that there are plenty of moderate, thoughtful, intelligent and progressive muslims. It would behoove you to do some traveling with an open mind and heart and see who you meet before your own smugness and certainty completely blind you.
BFDeal says “Just pull the troops from Afghanistan,Iraq, and Lybia. Base some troops in Saudi Arabia to protect the oil fields. Sit back and let the Arabs fight the Arabs and the Muslims fight the Muslims, and eventually they exterminate each other.. There is NO downside.”
Did you not know that US troops on Saudi soil (sand) were the rallying point around which the 9/11 terrorist attacks were planned and executed? The saudis are the worst of the dictators in the entire region, make no mistake that there is a HUGE downside to being involved with them. A better option would be to develop other sustainable energy options so that we don’t NEED to be involved with them or have their blood on our hands.
MSF Mac says “Reminds me of the “Mother of All Wars” Saddam promised us, and it was over in under 100 hours.”
I think the 4,287 servicemen killed and 30,182 servicemen wounded since then. Your concept of “war” apparently doesn’t include a political solution which allows for an eventual exit from the theatre, which essentially makes it nothing more than murder.
So, if Ahmadenijad freaks you out with his grand pronouncements just remember how you feel when Obama does or Bush did the same. The “persians” you refer to happen to be people just like you and I who want nothing much more than a family home, food, and the right to say and think what they wish. Turn off the TV, go out into the world and MEET some of these people before you start talking about turning the desert into glass. It’s not our job as Americans to tell others how to live, pray, or talk. It’s not right ethically, and our insistence on exporting our point of view at the point of a gun is quickly leading us to bankruptcy.
Remember that you read this post when your social security and medicare are taken away to continue the funding for foreign wars that benefit no one other than the politicians and weapons manufacturers that they lobby for once they leave office.
Remember as well that violence begets violence until someone with enough understanding of the eventual outcome offers to be the first to turn the other cheek. Any christians here? Think of your savior, I believe that this parable might have been attributed to him.
