If Norway ever carried out the Socialist Left Party’s wet dream of military action against Israel, know that those Norwegian forces wouldn’t last an hour.
But don’t think the security needed by Jewish institutions in Norway are unlike those found elsewhere in Europe. They are not. In both Rome and Prague I had to show my passport to attend the synagogues. In Berlin not just the synagogue but a small Jewish eatery had a police guard out front. In Frankfurt the Jewish Community Center sits behind a tall gate, with police guards at the two ends of the blocked off street.
This trend is only partially attributable to Europe’s growing, and blatantly anti-Semitic, Muslim populations. It also reflects the hostility of much of its chattering class – its “intellectuals”, its media, and its feckless politicians. It started with the abject appeasement following the October, 1973 war when much of Europe had its oil cut off and the resulting “tilt” toward the Arabs. It’s only gotten steadily worse since.
