Two points…
1) If you think the electoral college yields “funny results,” how about a win with 47% of the votes that gets you 80% of the seats?
2) The current French Constitution requires 60% of the combined votes of the French Senate and the National Assembly to change the constitution. Or, it may be changed by national referendum (by simple majority). Senatorial elections come in September, and for now, UMP controls just under half the seats there.
It looks like UMP will be able to do whatever they want on the legislative front, up to and including amending the constitution.
