The damage that can be done by “partnerships of convenience” is rather great. It reminds me of the old tale of the ?fox? who was persuaded by smooth-tongued promises to swim a poisonous snake across a fast-flowing stream, and did so, whereupon the snake bit him. Dying, the ?fox? asked, “Why? I helped you!” The snake responded, “You knew what I was when you took me on your back.”
Aside from reality-based quibbles, like noting that virtually all snakes swim quite well, the point should be clear: aligning with subversives to garner a few more votes or to puff up the apparent size of an alliance is a mug’s game. It makes me seriously doubt Allawi’s judgment, not to mention his intentions.
