Your analysis is very apt:Maliki and co want to keep power at all cost, will even use the military to achieve this. So what is the difference from earlier regimes or govts in Iraq? It seems to me that the Maliki govt still does not understand what democracy means, that it does not translate into winner takes all, and that opposition is healthy and a mainstay. Conversely it appears that some in the opposition see subversive activities as their only way to attain power!
