Dear NBC Olympics Anchors: A Little Patriotism Wouldn’t Kill You
I remarked on my own blog over a week ago about the NBC Commentators. As I’ve refined my thoughts over the last few days, this isn’t about “journalism” any more than the radio broadcast of the Tennessee Titans is by the Tennessee Titans Radio Network. The radio play-by-play announcers during the Titans games here in Nashville are not “journalists”. When their team does something good, they cheer for them, they’re excited.
Seems to me this same philosophy could be used with the Olympics broadcasts. NBC’s purpose should be to show American athletes to the American audience. If they don’t want to be cheerleaders, then fine; don’t cheerlead for anyone.
