When your correspondent is in New York, have him (her?) stop at Fairway on Broadway sometime between 8 and 9 am; 4 different bakeries are represented, including the store’s own kosher bakery. Eight of the breads are “off the charts”; at least 5 others are world class.
As to the butter, it might not be the best to ruin the food of life with empty saturated fat calories; instead, to get the true goodness of the bread, just a thin slice of a beefsteak tomato and some salt and pepper.
