In terms of electoral votes, Obama is way ahead. Yet all the stories are about the near-tie in the meaningless popular vote.
The selection error here is multiple: 1) If there is no story, you can’t sell as many advertisements. 2) People like the popular vote and feel the electoral college is outdated. 3) Both the Democrats and the Republicans want to rally the troops, a tight contest helps them do so.
