Like it or not, libertarians, it’s the morality, stupid.
This obvious corruption is just a minor symptom of the same massive underlying cause that put us on the road to bankruptcy.
This is why “fiscal conservatives” and libertarians are so wrong. No system of government can continue to function in the absence of a pervasive morality. It need not be unanimous, but it must be the societal norm.
We are seeing the collapse of our economy precisely because of the lack of morality, not because of fiscal policies. Our legal system, our courts, our civilian governments at all levels, and our fiscal policies alike either stand or fall on a foundation of morality, either good or bad.
