Of all the things to worry about, Obama using the military as his personal thug squad/imperial stormtroopers should be last on the list.
People of the US military are honorable and self sacrificing to a fault. The very, very first bit of training in boot cam is about “illegal orders”. There are laws to follow, and those breaking the laws, even under direct orders of the Commander in Chief are going to be prosecuted. Recruits are taught the phrase “Sir, that is an illegal order and I will not obey it.”
The sergents teaching say ‘yes, you’re screwed if you do, and screwed if you don’t, but refusing probably means losing your career, obeying will lead to imprisonment and quite possibly execution.’
I don’t know of any other military that covers the subject to recruits.
Also, the US military has no desire to be empire builders. Generally they would be happiest if our enemies would shut up and surrender already, so we can move on to rebuilding their country and making the enemies all into corrupt politicians.
Because that’s when the US military gets to go home.
