I have done a little research, and it appears there IS a Daniel G. Amon of Alexandria, VA who at least as of 2004 was a GS-14 Public Afairs Specialist with the Selective Service System. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, a Dan Amon was a congressional aide to a congrssman “hunt(ing) for dirt on Bill Clinton” back in 1992: http://www-tech.mit.edu/V112/N59/query.59w.html
This still does not answer the lingering questions about under what authority this information was released, and whether it is the “full story”. If not under a Freedom of Information Act request, there may not be a legal obligation to reveal all the details.
I’m especially curious about the careful wording of the email. It does not say Obama registered at a Hawaii post office in 1981, but that he registered there (maybe last week when he was on vacation 
, with an effective date of 1981. Kind of convoluted language.
