Obama and Me

I can’t help thinking that, perversely, the danger that Obama represents is exactly what the country needed – and the world too, come to think of it.

The opportunistic and slightly more sensible Hillary or the RINO McCain would have allowed all the nice people to hope for the best and go about their business as best they could. This fellow has made that impossible.

Mouthing as he does, every feel-good socialist mantra, every green piece of nonsense, every time-honoured racist trope while embodying the exact opposite, he has forced people to think about what it means to be a US citizen and what duties that requires. To the astonishment of the left and the world, it turns out a majority of the American citizenry care enough to give up whatever they must to save the country. Yes, it will take years to undo the damage but the undoing will be done with keen insight into what is the right way to structure the government and limit its reach.

Similarly, surely it is the current weak posture of the US on the world stage that has been a factor in the rebellion of the Arab street against their intolerable governments. Whatever happens in Tunisia and Libya and Egypt and elsewhere, from now on, nobody believes that the US can be counted on to come to the rescue of populations that feel free to take help with one hand while heaping calumny with the other on their protector and benefactor. We have all seen that they are perfectly capable of rising up and accepting their responsibilities. From now on, countries that want help from the US will be required to demonstrate their bona fides.

All in all, we are looking at the end of hypocrisy and its first cousin, political correctness.
