Too many cliches in this piece to take it seriously. Though I’m hardly an Obama supporter (I was at the original tea party in our area … before it was called a “tea party”) I’m put off by HuffPo mirror image articles like this, filled with dire warnings and hyperbole. Here’s the deal: America is what it has always been, a clash of ideas. It really is no less partisan today than it has been throughout most of its history. At least today we don’t name our newpapers “The Democrat”j and such. The only time we seemingly are united is post war or attack.

It is this clash of ideas that the founders saw as our strength. It was a stroke of brilliance. Today the left is reeling from overreach and paying the price. The Repubs, chastened after the Bush years, discovered an ancient word in the lexicon: No. It alone brought them together, clarified their vision, gave them courage.

And so they are ascendant … for now. But they will overreach as well and the left will discover a true voice, not this “Yes We Can” or “Win the Future” sloganeering. Perhaps it will be “maybe.”

At any rate, we are witnessing the beautiful drama that is the essence of America. It enthralls, it captivates, it generates loud “ooohs” and “aaahhhs”, it produces careers and destroys them.

That is the U.S.A. Obama is part of its story.
