All this secession talk gives me a headache. How are you going to take a ideological split and draw borders? In nearly every state, the countryside (rural and some suburban) is majority conservative/independant and the big cities liberal- blue or red state depends on the size of the cities vs. the rest of the state. Your secession would very quickly look like the Muslim/Hindu split-up of the Indian sub-continent, complete with mass migrations, ethnic/ideological cleansing, and oceans of blood.
If we can’t save the country by confining our revolutions to the ballot box, we have already lost. Civil wars are no longer fought on a battlefield here or there, they’re fought everywhere. If our current economic mess looks like hard times, don’t even think about civil war. Better yet, do think about it. Look at the results where one has been fought to the bitter end. There is no victory, just a wasteland.
