Political correctness and the ‘worship’ of unproductive celebrities are two factors, And I think the money grubbing attitude of many enters into the equation. I wonder how much progress is stifled by the lack of money or connections to get something done or those who think the payback would not be sufficient to warrant investment. Add to that the attitude of many people toward education and\/or various drugs. There also seems to be persistent disbelief that failure of our civilization is possible.
